Had tv for 18 months, one day it just would not come on. No picture or sound. I heard company went bankrupt and cannot find anyone to fix it.

The problem is with the power supply module of the TV. This is a separate electronics module that is easy to disconnect and take out once the back has been opened.
The specific source of trouble in the power supply module are bad electrolytic capacitors. If you are capable of replacing these capacitors, the parts will only cost you between $30 and $50, depending on where you buy them. Unfortunately all the capacitors have to be replaced, unless you have the equipment and the patience to check each one seprately.
If you are handy with a soldering iron, and are comfortable performing basic electronics repairs, it is relatively simple to do this yourself.
Only two words of caution: please note the voltage rating of the original capacitors and ensure that the new capacitors have the same or higher voltage ratings. Secondly, the power supply unit can contain dangerous voltages if the repair attempt is made soon after the TV has been unplugged. Ideally, leave the TV unplugged overnight before attempting this.
Better still, have someone more experienced do this for you.....once you tell him/her what needs to be done.
If you are really into these things, while the back has been removed, re-route the power cable to avoid having it run past the input connectors. This is what introduces that annoying buzz in the speakers.
Good luck.

SOURCE: Astar 32'' LCD - anyone have monitor drivers?
I purchased this model
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889114016
and have been able to get 720p and 1080i resolutions on DVI connections from my PC with both Intel and ATI graphics AND 1920x1200 resolution over VGA from the Intel integrated connection (the ATI has only DVI). You need to dump the EDID to see what resolutions and timings the TV is telling the video card it supports. Then you need to get a video card driver that allows for custom resolutions to be created. First download this free utility and post the output: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm
