1. Confirm the USB port on the computer you are connecting your printer to is being recognized by your computer. The easiest way to do this would be to plug a known good USB Memory stick into the USB port you want to use. If you can read the contents of the USB Memory stick then the port should work. Remove the Memory stick, start the printer installation program (Make sure you don't the printer connected), want until the setup program tells you to connect the printer before you attach the Printer's USB cable.
If the printer isn't recognized try a different USB port, when picking a new USB port to try select a higher priority port, for example in increasing priority from, an external USB hub, a powered external hub, a monitor based hub, USB ports on the front of the computer, up to the USB ports at the computer rear. For USB ports on the same circuit select an USB 2.0 before an USB 3.0 port
Please check usb cable first, make sure that it is ok. Then check usb port, move the usb cable to other port. Then check if usb cable and port are ok, try to connect other printer or device by using that usb cable and port. If works well means the usb port on printer got a problem. But if still not work the problem could be on usb cable or usb port on computer. If you are sure that both the printer and computer are ok, try to reinstall the printer driver. Good luck!.
first check usb port is working or not in computer using any usb device ..... insert another usb device like pen drive and usb mouse ....if its detecting and working fine means no issue .... take a new printer cable and check its detecting or not if its not working its may be issue with the printer usb connector .....if your computer usb not working try fix it ...... if
I had the same problem with mouse, it happens when devices connected to two USB ports that are close to each other, so I connected mouse in the back of computer USB and printer in the front USB (or reverse), or further away from each other.
the printer is designed to work with a parallel cabel connection. usb to parallel conversion cables may or may not work.
now for the second part is, about the driver (visit manufacturers website for updated drivers), usb driver behaves differently compared to parallel drivers as it expects a usb printer connected to a computer. try both drivers. remember, it may or may not work.
If your System is in hybernation mode, don't remove any attached USB device, because it will damage your USB driver. This is one of the known problem from microsoft.
If you have to remove any USB device use 'Safely Remove Hardware'.
To remove currepted USB drivers its not enough to remove your printer drivers.
You should un-install the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' from Device Manager.
Then re-boot to clean registry.
Install the 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' using XP Setup CD.
Then check the Mass storage, PDA etc, it should recognized by XP.
Then install printer driver (don't attach printer to system untill setup finish or setup says to connect).
I think it will fix. Please let me know your feed-back.
