Thermostate is turned to the coldest setting. Freezer is a chest ge 14.7 cu ft freezer and is in our garage. Freezer is 4 years old. Freezer does not get colder even when the garage is 35 degrees in the winter. I can not hear the compressor running when I have checked it so I assume it is not trying to run all the time. This suggests maybe the thermostate is bad? If the coils were dirty you would expect the freezer to be colder when the ambient air is colder but it is not. Can you help?
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, a temporary workaround and as a test on the thermostat is to jump the two wires going to it. This should activate the compressor. Performing this would enable you to determine:
Even if the coils were dirty, the compressor should still work based on the thermostatic setting and the triggering of the controller board.
Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
