My Gateway M6843 laptop was working fine for me, but I was going out of town for a few weeks I unplugged it to avoid messing it up due to lightning or power surges. Now that I am back I plugged it in and get nothing at all. No power, no lights on the front...nothing. I've tried the methods of taking battery out and power cord out, holding the power button for a minute and then putting the battery and/ or the AC cord back in and nothing works. It's hard to believe something "broke" from being unplugged and sitting dormant for 17 days. Any ideas!? Thanks in advance!

Fixable? Maybe
Sounds like a problem with the power jack on the Motherboard. If so, it is possible to remove the board and replace the jack but this requires soldering skills and is probably not something the average person would want to try.
You might try another adapter to be sure but if it is a motherboard problem the best solution is probably to junk it and buy a new laptop.

Hi,
have you already tried to power up your laptop without the battery, only with the powersupply docked in?
If this works, you´ll have to replace the battery or use the laptop without a battery.
If this doesn´t work, just take the full battery from the other laptop try to power up the laptop without the power supply docked in.
If this works, your latop motherboard is broken and till it is replaced, you have only the chance to work with a battery and reload it with another latop.

Try taking out battery and plug in power. If it works, battery is faulty. If not,
Try taking out your hard disk plug in power, if it works, hard disk is faulty. If not,
Try taking out memory card, if there's a sound, memory card faulty. If no sound, it's your motherboard that is causing the error.
Note: If machine is under warranty no need to pay for the repairs.
