Dryer Drum Scrapping

We just replaced the belt for our Maytag Ensignia Dryer and now there is a scrapping noise from the drum touching the blower mount when it has been started. It doesn't touch all the time, but it doesn't sound right.

You didn't put the FRONT BULKHEAD ASSEMBLY on right. It cradles the drum to keep it off the blower mount:)

2yr old maytag maxima dryer gets louder and louder after run 30min. prob. repeats after cool down and running again. Vent is clean new pipe, no error codes. Sounds like a surging vibration.

DRYER MAKES NOISES.

A loose or worn BELT can make funny noises

Or the idler pulley that puts tension on the dryer drum drive belt could be worn out. If the pulley is bad we recommend also replacing the belt.

The glides on drum worn and making metal to metal contact.

The drum slides or glides support the front of the drum. As the drum rotates over the years, the glides wear out and then the dryer makes noise. Replace all of the glides as a set if they are worn out.

CHECK FOR LOOSE BELLOES inside the drum

Sometimes an item can get stuck inbetween the drum and the housing and scrape and grind making funny noises, things like coins, bra wire, nails, hair pins, etc sometimes u can just remove the cabinet and observe by turning the drum by hand or looking for scratch or scrape marks on housing.

The blower:

Clumps of lint, socks, and other small articles of clothing can get past the lint filter and into the blower wheel. If the dryer makes noise, and the noise seems to be at a very fast pace, there might be something caught in the blower wheel. In addition, the blower wheel sleeve might be worn out, allowing the blower wheel to wobble on the motor shaft. If this happens, replace the blower wheel.

The bearings:

The drum bearing supports the rear of the dryer drum. If the dryer makes noise this bearing might be worn out. Replace the bearing if it is worn out. Do not lubricate the bearing, the lubrication will attract lint and dirt and accelerate the wearing process.

The bearings TEST by moving drum by hand u may be able to feel loose or rough movement. And listen to sounds when turning it.

The drum rollers or castors:

It is very common for dryer drum rollers to wear out. If the dryer makes noise, particularly a loud rumbling noise, one or more of the rollers may be worn out. After removing the drum from the dryer, inspect the rollers.

Check for cracks, dryness, or damage and not engaging drum properly. Sometimes u can use high density LITHIUM BASE gear grease to re oil/grease them.

I get a loud scraping noise when I first start up the dryer

It sounds like the drum is off balance, the drum could be scrapping along the side of the dryer. Check for a loose bolt on the drum assembly. Once it starts running the drum levels out and the scrapping noise goes away

Dryer got very hot and smelled burning..

This is usually a result of a stalling idler pulley or drum, causing a burned spot on the drum drive belt.

The situation will only worsen. The belt is best replaced before it breaks.

Items to pay attention to, when the drum drive belt is replaced, are:
(1) Clean and lube the idler pulley and drum roller shafts.
(2) Confirm that the drum glides will yield additional service life.
(3) Check motor condition and de-lint the blower housing and blower intake pathways.

Dryer is making a scrapping noise like something needs oil

Most common thing causing scrapping noise on tumble dryers is the drum bearing worn. Listen carefully at the back of the machine when it is going and you will confirm the noise is louder there, if so a new drum bearing is required. There is a small removable panel in the middle of the outer back panel where the bearing is. Spares are available at your local suppliers

Maytag dryer make very loud 'tumbling', thumping noise but the drum isn't turning. We just replaced the belt and all the wheels and pully's 'appear' to be in good shape. Help.

If you just replaced all that then maybe you dont have the drum put back in there correctly. alternately sometimes the fins on the inside of the drum are not tight and shift and make noise as the drum turns. You tighten those on the outside of the drum. Make sure you put the belt on right. The blower wheel may have worked itself loose. Make sure the belt is on right and the drum was not put back in backwards. Check that, if the other doesnt work. Last but not least I have seen on some Maytag brands the seam on the drum was not welded right and it popped opened/no longer seamed togerther...check that as well.

When I turn the drum, I hear a scrapping noise.

Have the unit taken apart to inspect bearings and glides. While there, vaccuum all the lint.

Fridgidaire dryer

In dryers, the small clothes can get caught in one of the drum seals and make a scrapping noise, ( remove power, grab a flash light and have a peek inside through the door opening ) or the cloth can actually pass through one of the heating duct holes at the back of the drum and touch something electrical like the heating element, thermostats and so the noise comming.
