Unit not responding in any way.

After watching a VCR tape, the unit rewound and ejected the tape. The display screen then went to a row of dim hyphens and the unit would not accept a tape or DVD, or respond in any way to selections made by either the remote or on the unit itself. I unplugged the unit and moved it for easier access and now it won't come on at all. Any suggestions or ideas as to what the problem is and whether or not it's worth fixing?

Hi Beverly Neal,
At this point, It isn't worthy to get this VCR fixed since the manufacturers stopped their production in 2016 or earlier so It might be hard to find parts to fix it or to expensive to get it fixed.

Did you try cleaning the tape head of the player?

For some reason be sure all the gear or any mechanical inside the player is freely rotating.

Adjust the VCR tracking to get a good picture.

VCR won't record, just ejects tape

You have not mentioned the make and model number of the vcr. Any way the problem is due to end sensor or related circuit. End sensors are photo diods which you can check the shorting with a multy meter.

My Philips model DVD750R/17 shuts off when playing a VCR tape after about 15 minutes. Why?

The most likely cause is a problem with the mechanism that moves the tape(when played a bit more weight is on the takeup reel.

Someone would have to open the unit so they can see the reels moving---watch to see if it begins to hesitate when further into the tape.

A trick that can help to see is put a fully rewound tape in and hit fast forward--let it go all the way to the end and rewind--if unit does not stop after doing that see what happens in play.

A worn drive unit that moves the tape can sometimes get better after run this way.

Most VCR's will auto-rewind the tape when it gets to the end of a tape. Most will leave the tape in the unit assuming you may wish to view it again once rewound. Does the tape eject properly when you press the eject button? What does the manula say about the eject function?
