Was watching and suddenly picture went off > vertical lines > black screen. When I try to turn on again get grey screen (no Picture) which then goes to darker screen (with minimal light) and stays like that until I turn set off. On occasion (seldom and unpredictable) I turn on and get ICON then flickering picture which sometimes clears and may stay on for hours but then goes to the "black screen of death"
If you have tried using different input devices, looked for loose contacts
in power outlet, RC Jack, cable and connectors, the TV might need service.
SOURCE: Vizio 42", have picture for about 5 mins then screen goes black.
also check the power cord wire coming from the back of the tv is loose from the tv side or perfect.

I do not recommend it however.In my professional opinion, you should contact Vizio and ask for an approved local service center, then, get a "Quote" for repair.
With faults such as this, it is important to leave them disconnected from the wall, as it is entirely possible, for a faulty, TV, to cause a fire, an explosion, or both. Anytime one hears any sort of "pop" similar or not, is grave cause for concern, as usually this means some sort of component failure, in a high voltage area.
