Not exactly a fuse for drying heat, the electric motor would have a thermal fuse strapped into the winding. The dryer exhaust hot air chimney, just after the drum, would have both a thermostat and a high heat limit called thermodisk cut off and clixon by trade name. Find the wiring diagram inside the dryer panels to reveal color wires going to what you need finding.
ticking you hear is the timer motor, drive motor is most likley geeting too hot.check vent ,dryer pushed back too far?hose kinked ?stopped up?too long?vent should be short, straight and of hard pipe.clean vent twice a year, heating element will love you.you will not love to replace it.
Have you made sure the vent is not plugged, and that the vent fan is working properly? This would cause over heating. There is also a thermal fuse that caused it to quit again.

make sure your drum is turning, open it quickly and see if it's turning, also make sure you have good ventilation behind the dryer, let me know what you find-mike
Have you tried lengthening the dryer cycle or running it at a higher temp? The usual culprit for wet clothes is not running a dryer long enough or hot enough. (I remember some stand-alone dryers (coin-operated with a fixed drying time per coin) that needed two cycles to dry stuff.
