Relay switch? I believe some fluid may have leaked inside the front control panel. Recently I have been able to heard the freon running through the tubes every time it kicked on. After Hurricane Irk, I sometimes would have to turn the outside thero dial to reset it and make the compressor come on. Some times the compressor would come on and go off several times in an hour and sometimes it would work properly. Two days ago I noticed that the orange 'on' light has been flicking, sometimes staying on (like it is suppose to), then turning off. The green running light would come on and go off like normal when the compressor turned on. Last night the orange light was out again. The green light was also out. I turned the thermo dial to reset the running of the compressor and heard a sizzling noise. The green light was on and it worked okay during the night after that, but this morning, the green light stays on and I do not hear the freon running or feel the compressor running, although the compressor is hot to touch. Could the relay switch be out? Of course, unlike my Roper dryer, I cannot get the parts diagram on-line. I'd hate to have to buy a new chest freezer right now. Thanks for your help.

SOURCE: Quit working -Haier Freezer

You have one of three issues here.
Either the thermostat has gone bad,
The thermal cutout has gone bad ontop of the compressor,
or the capacitor is out for the compressor.

Take an hom meter and check the thermal cutout, it should read 0 ohms or "continuity" if it doesnt the cutout is bad.

The only real way to check the cap is with a cap meter.

as for the thermostat check it with a n hom meter to make sure you have good connections internal the thermostat.

If you have any other questions just let me know!

SOURCE: Freezer not freezing food even at highest setting

If the unit is running continuously and not maintaining the temperature cold enough the system may have a leak. If it is NOT running continuously the problem could be in the temperature control.

SOURCE: I have a GE chest freezer and the exterior green

Is this just a "Power-on" light to let you know it's plugged in and has power? This is probably just a "neon" (although the actual gas inside is hydrogen for the green color) bulb and sometimes they will do the flickering thing literally forever. In a way it's a good thing as it makes you look at it. If it really concerns you, or if it is actually a warning that something is going wrong (it should say in the manual, you DO have the manual don't you?) have it fixed under the warranty.

My chest freezer recently beginonly freezez a little at the top but it 's just cool like a fridge at the bottom

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. This freezer uses the chassis to dissipate heat so that the freezer can freeze. There is not a condenser fan. So what you have is a basic and usually trouble free freezer. If your freezer is not cold at the bottom of the unit there can be a couple of causes:

1. The compressor is running slow due to the rotor dragging on the compressor stator.

2. The PTC relay contacts on the compressor are getting hot and the compressor is shutting off before the temp control cycles the compressor off. Usually that is how PTC relays fail.. one hot contact and the unit cycles much more rapidly than usual and eventually the compressor stops running completely.

3. The system Freon has leaked out of the system and the unit is running on low pressure. (If this is the case the symptom will only get worse and very soon)

4. There is a very remote possibility of the cold control being damaged from an external bump by someone due to the fact that it is located outside the freezer compartment on the chassis.

Thanks for choosing FixYa. Kelly

Hi! My kelvinator FN360 frost free freezer's motor is running all the time and it is not freezing inside properly.Occasionally, there is a pop coming from the freezer (most of the items are frozen though)...

check your door seals. warm air leaking in can keep it from reaching it's temp. also, the condensation will collect on the evaporator coils causing them to freeze up. when they do, there is no air flow to cool the rest of the fridge, so the compressor will run constantly trying to reach the set temp. empty it out, thaw out the coils, and check your door seals for leaks. if it still happens, you might have a slow freon leak.

Panel is hot and freezer does not work!

Check the condenser fan underneath the unit accessable form the back behind the cardboard cover. It should be running when the compressor runs. OR Check the evaporator behind the rear cover inside the freezer. Check for ice build up. . Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control

Frigidaire stand up frost proof w/ temp alarm / 98' model. Compressor running, no power problem. Removed interior panel and found that evaporator coils not getting cool. When switch for alarm is pushed on...

If your compressor is running with no freon, It should be very hot. Check if it is. And if it is and the freon has leaked out. Then you must find the leak in the system before you add more freon. If you dont this will be an ongoing problem. The freon will leak out after any length of time. This is a very hard task to find the leak, and you will be money ahead to buy another if you dont find the leak than to re charge every year or so.

Used freezer won't freeze food

If the compressor is running and it still doesn't cool, it is probably leaking freon. If this is a frostless model there are other minor things that can go wrong. This usually shows up on a freezer that has recently been moved or hasn't been used for a time. This is almost never worth fixing as even if you fix it you can't ever completely trust it again. The food inside is usually worth far more than the freezer and most homeowners insurance doesn't cover it anyway.

Chest Freezer doesn't get cold

Was this unit placed on its side or back? This can cause oil to get where it shouldn't and block freon flow. If the unit has not been moved this is not an issue. Could be the compressor but sounds more like low freon level. Most leaks happen when units are turned off for long periods. I don't ever believe in charging a deep freeze unless you can positively say you have found and fixed the leak. You can never really trust it again and the food inside is usually worth more than the freezer.
