I'm trying to install it and it keep trying to dial out but no luck. I have a desktop computer in the house with internet wireless. what should i do. i tried to click where it says wireless but then it asks me for some ipa or ip address... what is that? or better yet what should I do? thanks a million
That IPAQ is old, Id trash it
lean that if the IPAQ is set to wep , most new routers do not allow it, now.
what is that, well
first learn what you routers is set to.
blind working on this , is impossible but here is wild guess.
do you know your routers SSID broadcast name (ISP set up?)
in the IPAQ
see your SSID name
click that and then pick WPA.
then type in your pass phrase.
bingo.?
there is no wireless there,
no wifi chip, no ethernet
just a relic modem card in side, aka, DIAL UP.
you have and pay for dial up service in 2018? nah I bet not.
i down loaded the manual in this relic, wow what junk this is.
old its now 18 long years old today with a street value of $5 for parts, zip. less than a pack of cigs as a Sailor would say.
it has 32MB of memory ,hopeless.
to make this work dial up takes 3 things
1-service from an ISP of such.
2-the modem card good and cable to a land line (POTS) got land lines?
got a real ma bell telephone, nah
this device has no Ethernet jack RJ45.
you need software to make that modem inside work #3 need.
id trash that thing and go to goodwill stores and upgrade for $20
get a PC with windows 7 on it. be 1000000000 better

Does the appliance have a dchp ip address option or auto ip address option. The IP address is used by the wireless network to identify each computer device in your house.
In your wireless router there will be a dhcp server that will lease out ip addresses to devices automatically.
the ip address would be 10.0.0.1 for your router or 192.168.0.1 usually most used ip addresses .
A subnet mask is usually 255.255.255.0 which is also needed.
Go to your desktop computer and go to command prompt . Google your version of windows and command prompt to work out how to do this.
then type in ipconfig
press enter key
note the default gateway address and the desktop's ip address
you may need to enter the default gateway ip address into the fridge also.
if the desktop was 10.0.0.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
then make the fridge if manually have to set it
10.0.0.254 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
or 192.168.0.254 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 if it is 192.168.0.2
the first three numbers are called the network address eg 192.168.0
10.0.0
the last number 1 - 254 are individual address part
192.168.0.1 {router uses this 1 usually } to 192.168.0.254
SOURCE: Connecting wireless
I've had a plethora of problems with my armada 1750 (I know this is not the same model, but it's close) one of which was getting it connected to my wireless network.
The primary problem I was having was the fact that it has a 4 gig HD, so I wanted to put the smallest windows OS possible while still being able to effectively use the internet (this was a nice idea in theory, but became my problem).
The card I'm using is a linksys WPC55AG:
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US/Layout&cid=1115416827328&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper
I'm going to wager that this will work for you as well. The problem however, is that I could not for the life of me get the software it comes with to detect wireless networks, to connect to my network *while using windows 98*.
I'm not sure of the hard drive space you have, but the solution for me was to install windowsXP with service pack 2, which has greater capabilities in detecting wireless networks. Now, with XP+SP2 installed, I'm just under 2 gig (1.8 or so).
I only use this to browse the web, so it suits my purposes just fine, I hope this helps you!

hi there,
You need to use those 2 recovery disks. Its very simple actually, one cd will say recovery disk 1, and the other will say recovery disk2.
What you do is pop in the recovery disk 1, restart the computer with the disk in it. During the restart you will see press any key to start up from this CD. Press any key and just follow the directions.

Hi danettefl,
what is your questions
why dialuip fails
why the IA-1 has no Ethernet ports.
why it has no wifi wireless, id did not.
the only wireless is the keyboard !!
its not wifi that menu you see there. ever.
sorry
there are USB ports on this PC.
and you can buy wired and wireless dongles that fit there.(fit only but not run)
but this PC is so old even XP will not load here.
there are no dongles now for windows 2000,
and mS explorer 4 is dead now.too.
IE-4 .
The makers of new wifi USB devices do no support
windows 95,98,2000, or XP
now. so you are sunk there,....
and you can nut run newer OS
on 32mb memory PC. either.
sunk every-which way but Sunday.
id trash it.
