I know the original question is 13 years old but I am still hoping for an answer. I have an original Bulova Computron 1976. With new batteries, they drain to dead in about a week even when the watch is sitting in a box unused. There is no visible damage to the battery compartments or the battery covers. I have changed batteries on watches before but none were bulova. I opened the back which you have to do to change battery find what battery you need and order online. I have been able to find at stores year ago but most watches now days people don't change batteries they buy new watches. It is a little harder to find batteries in stores.

No battery changes are needed - they are powered by a main- spring, which is wound either by wrist movement; or in some models by daily winding of the setting crown. 2. You can expect, on the average, a daily variance of up to 10 to 20 seconds for mechanical watches. 3. Just like automobiles, these watches require routine mainte- nance. Due to their mechanical complexity, mechanical watches require cleaning and new lubrication every 3 to 5 years to run at optimum efficiency. FOR THE AUTOMATIC SELF-WINDING MECHANICAL WATCH it must be wound at least six or seven times before you wear it. After that, your daily activity should wind the watch sufficiently to keep it running at night when it is not being worn. Hi Maureen, The first thing i would have checked is the battery strap if there is one to make sure it is properly fitted over the battery. Other than that as long as the batteries were from a reputable jeweler, it seem as if you watch may need a movement cleaning and or repair it could possibly be the coil. Most of our watch cleanings run around $80.00 but we do all repairs by estimate. Thank you! Lisa
Be careful because some repair centers will charge you to be the middle man even though they know there will be no charge for the repair.
I recommend contacting Bulova directly because the problem you describe is a defect in the movement and yes it should be repaired. I would recommend replacing the movement rather than over hauling.
Bulova's standard warranty is 2 year limited. You should be covered.
