Purchased new batteries specific to the model: Merit Pioneer 10 scooter (this is my recent used scooter purchase replacement for an older scooter). Works perfect. removed batteries to put in old scooter to show someone it worked (the old scooter I'm selling). Put the new batteries back in the new/used scooter that I just purchased - was working perfect 30 minutes ago/put batteries back in exactly as they were; wires are clearly marked, etc. Now if the key is turned on or not, the charge light stays on in the back, charger is hot to the touch and the unit does not work (forward/reverse) however, lights and turn signals do still work. All fuses are fine. no reset buttons that I could find. The unit is a Merit Pioneer 10 or nearly exact model. Thanks for any help.
You had better recheck your connections because the batteries are polarity reversed

sounds like you got a bad stereo. it happens. i've i had the same thing happen, but the volume went up instead of down. check all the wires and make SURE they are all hooked up right.

just a thought is the radio a kenwood if it is ther is yor problam . bmw dashes get verry hot and kenwoods dont like the heat i have had this problem more than once

I asked that becauses of the wiring for the tow setup. If the previous owner had uhaul or one of the other tow companies out there install the wires for the tow package they use a crappy little product that they clamp to the wire and push a pin that cuts the casing and connects the circuit. It also seriously weakens the cables, and lets water in to the wire. Since you have a tow package I'd focus on those wires back there sounds like you may have a short. Those pins do have some wire exposure when installed right and I've seen them bundled and taped on the early 2000's explorers without being individually taped first, which leads to shorts and non working turn signals and brake lights.
