PCI is an industry standard and you should be fine using the PCI USB card but you need to make sure your operating system will be compatible with the PCI card that you purchase. It will tell you right on the package.

You can actually place these items in any slot. Some computers come with extra spots for upgrades. So you shouldn't have to worry about that. As for the moden not being there, some manufactures skimp out on the amount of stuff they place in the computer, so basically it may have not even came with one.

Could be the power supply. Try unplugging the internal hardisk power, the internal cd power and anything else that is connected internally apart from the motherboard power supply. This may reduce the load enough to allow the motherboard to be powered.
As power supplies age, internal electrolytic capacitors dry out and can no longer store sufficient charge to provide power. This usually affects the higher voltage rails more, so USB devices can still get power from the 5V rail.
Try a working power supply from another computer if you can or buy a replacement to fit your case.

My hard drive copying and pasting is very slow. For 500-700 mb files it takes more than 25 minutes....what should i do to increase the speed?

Im only guessing that its an older PC and your USB connection is probably USB 1? If this is so you can install a PCI USB 2.0 internal card which normally gives you 4 ports which is about 20 times faster. Cheers from Scott and please vote ........bout $10 - $15 at most i think at any good PC shop

Does my w3507 have an agp port

No it does not have an agp port. IT has a PCI Express Port for video cards. Its much better and faster.
Details on your machine and what it has can be found at this link. Hope it helps.

Compaq Evo w6000 worksation slow while coping

it always takes longer when you use a USB connection. if you have the option for firewire cable, then it will be faster. It will also go faster if you exit out of all running programs. for example chats that are running, and other programs that run by your clock that you are not using. like adobe, photo shop, and other misc applications.

I have a HP Compaq dx2200 microtower. When I turn

Ed it sounds like a RAM problem. How much ram do you have. These days you need at least 1g. How big is your hard drive. You need to have at least 10g constantly free at all times. This might mean a larger one. You may be running 2.0 devices but is your system truly 2.0 or higher. Go to start, run, try this:
  • Right-click My Computer
  • Click on Properties
  • Click on the Hardware tab
  • Click on the Device Manager button
  • Scroll down as needed until you see Universal Serial Bus Controllers
  • Expand that by clicking on the boxed plus sign in front of Universal Serial Bus Controllers
At this point you should see something like this:
usb2.png "... on most machines the presence of 'Enhanced', even only once, means that all USB ports are USB 2.0 ports ..." Note the highlighted line: "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller". While the exact text may vary, the key is the word "Enhanced".
If it's "Enhanced", it's USB 2.0. If it's not, then it's USB 1.x.
Now, wasn't that obvious?
Important: on most machines the presence of "Enhanced", even only once (which it typically is), means that all USB ports are USB 2.0 ports. Typically a machine will have only one type of port and this tells you which kind they all are.
The one exception to this scenario is a machine with USB 1.1 ports that has a USB 2.0 expansion card added. In this case I know of no way to tell which is which, other than simply knowing you added a USB 2.0 card to a machine with built-in 1.1 ports. Obviously in a case like this, the built-in ports are 1.1, and the added expansion card ports are 2.0.
Hope this helps.

ASUS P4SDX USB Ports not recognized as USB2 HS Ports

The message comes up when a USB 2 device is connected to a slower USB 1 or 1.1 port. It is only to advise you that the devise will operate faster on a USB 2 port. If your computer has only USB 1 or 1.1 ports, you will always see the message. You can buy and install a card with USB 2 ports and install it. It will come with the USB 2 drivers. Install the card and the drivers and then connect your USB 2 device to the new hardware and you should not see the message anymore.

Good luck, And let me know ho it works out for you.

I have an old hard drive tower. I bought a printer today and the UBS cable is not compatible. How can I get the right cable?

Check the back of the printer, is there a another connector or only the usb?

if the printer has only usb, you would need to buy a usb card for your old tower
You would need to look inside your tower and check if you have a white PCI slot available

heres what it will look like

371bfa2.jpg

And heres a USB - PCI card that will fit into the white slot giving you the USB connectors needed for the printer and everything else

Dell precision not recognising usb 2.0

sounds not,  some of the older systems only have 1.1, Usb 2 is not all that old (about 2-3 years).
you can upgrade to USB2 bu adding a USB2 PCI card to your system, this would give you some ports on the back and it may be possible to link the ports on the front to the new PCI card to upgrade those as well (depending on how they are connected to the mobo)
you can get USB2 cards with a Pin header which would allow for a pin block connection.

Computer freeze on saving files to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive (and USB2 flash drive)

Suggest you look at the motherboard book to check if or how many USB connections are in fact USB 2 compatible. Most modern Motherboards only have 2 USB 2.0 Compatible connections, most are 3.0 or 4.0 compatible. Hope this helps, Malcolm Campbell.
