Go to http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates.html?country=us&lang=enfirm and select the Archos 5 from the drop down box. I would suggest you follow the manufacturer's instructions when it comes to the firmware upgrade. I know it can be pretty hairy on most devices if you're upgrading it's OS. If it doesn't work, report back.
Hello wilko1974,
This has been an on going issue for Archos 5 users. The new youtube supports flash 10.1+ and the Archos 5 only supports 9. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a clear cut solution for this issue. Archos has not released a firmware update for this and with their new devices it there support for older devices has lowered.
I have found that choosing the lower play button that appears over a video plays on Archos more often than the top button. I would recommend trying this and seeing if you get better results.
Another possible solution is to open the video in a new window with the link on the top right of youtube video. This however is not on all youtube video pages and with the currently layout is on accessible when the video submitter enables it. It also help to have the latest firmware updates that can be done directly on your device.
Hope this helps,
Greg
How old is your laptop? older laptop will only support USB 1.1 and newer USB devices also will only work with the newer USB 2.0 ports! Most newer USB 2.0 memory sticks/flash drive are USB1.1 downwards compatibe. Bottom line: check what USB version is supported by your Laptop and your plug-in device! Also note that your Laptop BIOS should have LEGACY USB SUPPORT ENABLED and your device, especially if a Media Player, should have its operating MODE set to mimic a FLASH DRIVE (otherwise it will be an unknown device to 'my computer' drive list).
Archos.com FAQ says I forgot what the 'Parental Code' is. Where can I get it?The factory default code is "0000". If you have changed it and forgotten it, then you'll have to contact our Technical Support and give your 'Product key' (number of the device). The 'Product key' is found under MENU > Settings > Software and Plug-ins.
Generally card readers will either come with a built in driver, or it would come with a driver disk. You may need to visit the website of the card reader to check for downloadable drivers is possible.
Are you trying to actually install flash 9, or just play youtube videos again? (The youtube problem was solved here: http://www.fixya.com/support/t436385-play_anything_youtube)
