American Standard Elongated toilet bowl water level slowly drops

I had 3 Cadet toilets installed in our new home .
One of them has a problem with the water level dropping in the bowl over about a 5 minute period. If you push the handle to flush it does not do so completely. If I hold the handle down it will flush completely. and then the toilet bowl fills to the normal level only to drop to a minimum level again.
If you flush the toilet right after the bowl fills , it does so normally , but if you wait and let the water level drop it won't flush correctly.
The water level in the tank appears to behave normally and there seems to be no leak there . IS there some way to fix this , or do I have a defective toilet ?
Thanks

    SUCCESS !
I bought a new toilet and switched out the problem Cadet with a new on.
Now the bowl stays full and the toilet is working great !
The vent seemed to be open. Several other fixtures used the same vent with no problem.
Must have been a crack or small hole somewhere in the porcelain.
Thanks for the help Joe !
    Have a great year.

Took the old toilet back today for credit.
I am really vary happy with these CADETs. I have had several different brands and models in the past , but the flush on this model is the best I've ever had. (When working properly !)
We have had some much more expensive fixtures also.
I might upgrade the seats , but that's it.
Thanks again for your advice Joe.

I installed 2 identical Cadets for a lady last summer. They are on the same vent stack, right thru the wall from each other. One of the toilets drains down in the bowl after a period of 5-8 hours. The other toilet works fine. I have never seen this before. Seems to me the only thing that can be wrong is a hole in the casting. Anybody have any ideas? I read the recent problem that sounds almost identical to this one.

The water level in the bowl leaks out after flushing but there is no sign of leaking under the house.

The tank holding the proper amount of water is a good sign. The inside of the stool is like the GOOSE NECK under you sink. It always holds water. This may sound like a bit of a hassle to do but if all 3 toilets are identical, here is what you can try if you are a bit handy. Go to the hardware store and purchase 4 toilet wax rings with a plastic flange and a few sets of toilet floor flange bolts(they are cheap and you can always return if not used, as It is better to have xtra parts on hand). Turn off the water supply to the "Mystery Toilet". Leave the tank and everything connected to the stool. Flush the toilet and remove all excess water from the tank and bowl. This can be done with a shop vac, sponge or towel. Disconnect the water supply to the tank. Remove the bolts holding the stool to the floor and carefully remove toilet. Scrap off all the old wax from the floor flange and bottom of stool. Now go and repeat this proceedure to one of the toilets that is working properly. In other words Switch the "Mystery Toilet" with a "Working Toilet" and see how they react. If the working toilet does it in the same bathroom and the "Mystery Toilet" does not do it in the other bathroom then you probably have a VENTING PROBLEM. If the "Mysery Toilet" Does it in the other bathroom then you most likely have a Defective Toilet. This Job is best done by 2 people, as it can sometimes be challenging to center the new wax ring on the toilet flange. Reconnect to the floor and reconnect water supply to the tanks. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN BOLTS to the floor flange as you may crack the toilet. All drain lines must be vented properly for water to flow. If you are curious check out drain venting on the internet. Also, sometimes a vent can become obstructed with debris, ice, bird nest, etc.. I would 1st check the vent on the roof visually and then have someone flush and listen. If you believe the vent is clear....Then do the toilet switch and go from there.....Hope this helps and Happy Holidays....Joe

I have a new American Standard Cadet 3 that was just installed. After flushing, the water fills into the bowl. However, after several minutes, the water in the bowl slowly drains away and is nearly gone....

Sorry for problem with new toilet.
You say water is leaking out of the bowl?

Toilets have 2 parts:
1) Tank: where water is stored for the flush and is sealed with a flapper.
2) Bowl: where water flushes down.

a) If tank is leaking water, then flapper is suspect. Replace flapper and see if that works.
Lift up flapper and run finger around rim to see if there is a rough spot that would indicate flush valve is defective, and needs replacement.
See typical flush valve

b) If bowl is leaking, that is very unusual and would indicate a crack in the porcelain.

If installer sold you the toilet, it is his responsibility to make good on product.

Adjust the water setting of the tank to higher level, meaning an additional water will be added to the tank. The purpose of this is to release extra water that will fill the missing water level in the bowl.

Just installed the cadet 3 and here is what is happening. First let me say that the toilet it replaced was working good. The water filled very slow and the bowl would not fill much. I messed with the...

The amount of water in any toilet bowl is determined by its construction and no tank adjustment will ever change that. American Standard has a history of having small water surface areas in their low or ultra low flush toilets. Take a large container of water and pour directly into the bowl. If the ending level remains the same, then that is the manufactured level for your toilet.

Not all tanks completely discharge all of the water when flushed. Measure 1.5 gallons of water into a container. Turn off your water supply to the toilet then flush normally. Replace the water in the tank with your premeasured amount and observe this new water level. You might be surprised to find it is at the same level it always is. Since water weighs more than 8 pounds per gallon, one concept used in todays toilets is to have more than 1.5 gallons of water in the tank and use the extra weight push the water past the flapper at a faster rate while designing the flapper to drop after only 1.5 gallons have passed through.

After flushing, water level in bowl fills and then slowly drops.

Check to be sure small tube is flowing inside the ovefow tube. This is the water that flushes the rim holes, and refills the bowl. If you don't have flow clean or replace the float valve.

Installed cadet 3 and every twenty minutes it will run for about three seconds and i know it isn't supposed to do that

EITHER THE FLAPPER IS NOT PROPERLY ADJUSTED OR YOU WILL NEED A NEW FLAPPER. WATER IS SLOWLY LEAKING BETWEEN FLAPPER AND SEAT. AS WATER LEVEL DROPS ,TOILET WILL RUN TO BRING WATER LEVEL BACK TO PROPER HEIGHT.

Water disappears to below the bowl inlet and stop.

adjust the float up to make water deeper....make sure no obstructions around the flapper....flapper needs to rest tight to bottom of inside the tank..flapper is the rubber peice that lifts when you push handle
