If it's just the wire beater attachment, then it's possible it's oxidation from the metal/aluminum. Did you put it in the dishwasher? The manual says not to put the wire beater in the dishwasher. Hope that helps.

The beaters provided by KitchenAid are made of Aluminium. This will react with many dishwasher detergents and sometimes turn black immediately. There are now stainless steel versions available which will not turn black in a dishwasher. https://www.thereflectcollection.com/

Kitchenaid stand mixer 5SSWH 325 watts. How do I adjust the bowl height? Beater is too far from bottom of bowl. Thanks! Cas

There is a screw at the bottom of the motor head (flat head) you usually can't see it because of the top rim of the mixing bowl. hard to see and hard to reach, it may also be hard to turn due to "gunk" from mixing stuff (egg butter flour sugar) turn the screw counter clockwise to lower the motor head clockwise to raise it, you may also have the wrong size beater, it is not an uncommon problem, if you are the original owner and you have the original beater it should fix your problem with the adjusting screw, however I am not clear as to your model a 5SSWH would actually be a K5SSWH, which stands for kitchenaid 5 quart solid state white mixer, if this is your model number and you have the correct beater size then the adjusting screw will work to lower the head down, adjust it down using the stir or slowest speed just untill you can hear the beater "Ding" against the bottom of the bowl, then back it off a quarter turn to adjust properly. Hope this helps, let us know

Mixing paddle slips off pin

We have never heard of this problem before. I spoke with our KitchenAid technician as well and he has never seen this problem in the over 20 years of working on KitchenAid mixers.

Are you sure that the beater is hooked on all of the way, and there isn't anything in the beater stopping it from turning and clicking into place? Is the pin stuck? If the pin is not sticking out all of the way, or the spring is bad/damanged it is possible the beater could come loose. You would want to replace the agitator shaft.

My KitchenAid Professional 6 mixer has been used about 2 years. Lately it leaves a black trail in my icing/batter/whatever from the finish being worn off the metal beater--the triangular one. The bowl has...

It sounds like you have two problems. First, the black marks are usually because of a reaction between the beater and certain chemicals used in dishwashers. Try washing the beater by hand and scrubbing it throughly to remove any residue. If this works, don't use the dishwasher again. You could also buy a plastic coated beater.

It also sounds like the bowl height needs adjusting. There is a screw just under the head for this.

Kitchenaid mixer makes a lot of noise. The beater

Hi - I've been searching for general info on KitchenAid stand mixers and ran across this so I'm throwing my $.02 in... Since KA stand mixer bases are essentially made of cast metal parts, there is a very slim chance that there is a lateral misalignment (side-side) unless it got dropped...eek! Sounds like a head height adjustment issue. Check out this from KitchenAid Conversations:

Good luck.

My kitchenaid hand mixer beaters knock into each other as they spin. can i fix this?

This happened to me also, and it was because one of the beaters was no longer straight (bent just slightly, but enough). I found a replacement beater at a thrift store, and now it is fine. There were several replacement beaters at the thrift store... I'm guessing because many of the KA hand mixers are starting to die (the beaters don't 'click' in anymore).

Motor runs, beater stopped rotating. Some gear sounds heard before it stopped. Beater will not turn at any speed setting.

drive gear or shear pin stripped. Common on this model. Return to repair centre. Expect to pay approx $150.00 to repair, sorry.
