Cobra 29 LTD Classic not transmitting or receiving

I just bought and installed a Cobra 29 LTD Classic with a Firestik 2 (4') antenna on a 99 Dodge 2500. I mounted the antenna on my alunimum toolbox on the passenger side. I did ground the toolbox to the pickup. The radio turns on fine and everything apperas to be fine but the ANT light does not light up. I used good coax cable and it is not grounded out anywhere. I cant transmit or receive, I can hear nothing at all. Is this a antenna mounting problem? Thanks for any information. Does not transmit or receive.

SOURCE: Cobra 29 LTD Classic not transmitting or receiving

As I understand from a tech friend of mine, most truck beds are not grounded well enough. Perhaps you could borrow/purchase a magnet mount antenna and locate it on the roof, for testing. Then you would have it narrowed down to the location.

How to wire a Sadelta M3 to a Cobra 29 LTD Classic

I believe to wire a Sadelta M3 microphone to a Cobra 29 LTD Classic CB radio:

The Sadelta M3 microphone has four wires: white, shield (bare wire), red, and black. The Cobra 29 LTD Classic CB radio's microphone jack also has four pins: Pin 1 (Audio), Pin 2 (Ground), Pin 3 (Transmit), and Pin 4 (Receive).

To wire the Sadelta M3 to the Cobra 29 LTD Classic, you need to connect each wire from the microphone to its corresponding pin on the microphone jack. The white wire carries the audio signal from the microphone's element to the radio, the shield wire provides a ground connection, the red wire activates the radio's transmit function when the microphone is keyed, and the black wire is used for receive audio.
Here are the specific steps to follow:
  1. Cut off the existing microphone plug on the Sadelta M3 microphone cord.
  2. Strip about 1/4 inch of insulation from each of the four wires in the Sadelta M3 microphone cord.
  3. Connect the wires to the pins on the microphone jack as follows:
  • White wire to Pin 1 (Audio)
  • Shield (bare wire) to Pin 2 (Ground)
  • Red wire to Pin 3 (Transmit)
  • Black wire to Pin 4 (Receive)
  1. Solder each wire to its corresponding pin on the microphone jack. You may want to use a multimeter to verify that each connection is solid and that there are no shorts or open circuits.
  2. Once you have soldered all the wires, test the microphone by speaking into it and checking that the radio's TX meter moves as you speak. Also, check that you can hear audio through the radio's speaker when receiving signals.
  3. If the microphone is working correctly, use heat shrink tubing or electrical tape to cover the soldered connections and provide strain relief for the wires.
Note that some microphones, including the Sadelta M3, may have additional features such as a built-in amplifier or power supply that require additional wiring.

Cobra 29 ltd classic year 2004. rf gain problems.

Put SWR meter between your antenna and output, test wave length receive/transmit, might need a ground plane or center loaded stick.
Could be transceiver relay, try clicking mic fast, it should click out as fast as you key the mic.

When it's dry, I can't transmit, but when my antennas get wet, transmission doubles, WHY????

Hi John:
Try checking where the antenna is connected to the cable.
It may be corroded and you're not getting continuity unless it is wet.

I have had a Cobre 29 LTD Classic, a 29 NW LTD Classic and now a 29 LTD Chrome. It seems that the first two died because of possible bad antenna connections. I was able to calibrate the radios and adjust...

I see two possible problems. First, with a magnetic antenna it is difficult to get the proper ground for the antenna. Make sure the magnetic base is clean as well as where you place it. Second, try running your power lead DIRECTLY to the battery and not using the cigarette lighter. Hope it helps.
