My computer is 3 years old. My wireless connection failed - red light stays on all the time. On advice of a tech, I have replaced the internal wireless card and reinstalled drivers, but my wireless card is still not recognized. It doesn't show up in device manager. Wireless assistant is also not recognized, although I have reinstalled that as well. There are no alerts in the device manager. I tried restoring system defaults but that doesn't work. I tried rolling back to earlier drivers, but that didn't work. Is it possible the port for the card is fried? I also tried an external express card, but that was never recognized either.
What OS? (means operating system)? we cant guess it...
xp/vista/w7/w8/w10,? what?
is it same OS as day 1 new?
xp, does it have service pack 3 installed? if not, it wont work right.
ever.
if yes, XP did you install all drivers for this PC from HP.com
oops they are gone...
try to know that drivers for chips below the card must be good first.
3 years old to you?
it not a 3 year old model at all. its a dead product with a square screen,.'
its an old COMPAQ, 2006 , is my guess on DATE.
looks like it has VISTA.
Vista support ended this month
and support is gone to on V3000 at HP.
if you dig deep using HP, Google site searches some lingering elements remain.

like that .
the time to get DRIVER is before its 10 years old
HP, dumps them at 10, or soon after that.
find a newer lap top that has wide screen and upgraded
it give this to the goodwill. (in fact they have newer ones cheap)
it is a COMPAQ 2006 (HP bought them out LONG AGO)

Although you have internal wireless, you are capable of attaching an external wireless device. For example, you could attached a D-Link WUA-1340 USB Wireless G adapter (http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=477), or, if you have a PCI port, you can use a Linksys WPC300N Wireless-N Notebook adapter (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1144763513196&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=1319686869B07). Either device with any brand will work just like your internal wireless. In fact, because you chose to use an external device, you may get a better wireless signal. Because internal wireless devices are inside the computer, it is more difficult to received a signal than with an external device.

There are 2 ways you can work this.
- One of course is the External Wireless card you currently have
- Second, is to replace the internal card. Most laptops ahve a VERY easy to getat wireless card, and you can purchase the card on ebay for as low as 9 dollars plus shipping. Find what model laptop you have, and i'll even make a reccomenation, and show you how to access the wifi card.

If you want to replace the internal wriless card its should be accessable undeer the laptop its slides out of its socket. or you can buy a usb wirless adaptor and disable that one in your HP and you be all good to go and it will not cost you as much as if you where to replace the internal one.
