Sony Trinitron shows distorted hexagon off color pattern in picture

I believe my television has suffered a few power surges and because of this it has started displaying a hologrammed-like distorted hexagon-shape off color pattern in the picture. This may be a unique problem, however I'm just wondering if it can be fixed. I really like this tv. Not only do I like this tv, I'm fine with it's "old school" cathode ray type trinitron technology. This tv has lasted 20 years before showing the above mentioned problem. For someone like me who doesn't watch that much television, I am not in the market for the new fangled LCD and Plasma TVs that are taking over the market today.

My sony TV trinitron wega 42 inch picture is red. Is there any solution to remove the problem?

The problem with your TV trinitron wega is at the color adjustment section. It is located at the color board mounted at the back of the picture tube. There are variable resistors that represents the color pattern in the picture tube. Adjust the red color to low level to lower the red color.

Have enjoyed my KD-34XS955 for the past 5 years.

Maybe the degaussing coil is moved backward from the picture tube.

Picture color is distorted.

Try turning off power and let set cool completely. Then turn back on. Letting it cool complety re-arms the autmatic degaussing circuit. It may take several cycles to completly clear it up.

Green screen and distorted picture sound is good but no picture

It must be connected with the color circuit of your tv, a board connected to back end of the tube. Could be dust, cob web or carbon deposit shorting a transistor. Popping noise if loud enough can be attributed to high voltage circuit fault and picture tube.

Have it service by a qualified person.

Sound but no picture

sounds like the tuner got hit by lighting. Cost of tuner unknown to me at this time have seen them from 20.00 to 100.00 dollars pluss shiping and then have to pay repair shop to put it in. You probley would be better off buying a new tv there is no telling what else could be damaged that would show up at a later time like in a few days to a month or so.

Intermitant color bursts of red, green, purple

Kevin,

for the color problem, most likely you do have problem with loose contact of components from C-board ( small board connected at the back of CRT "picture tube" which drives every color and size of the screen)if you have knowledge with soldering electronic component parts, resolder this board and also check main board for possible loose contact.

cheers,
mark

How do i fix this

I just posted this in a previous message:
"In both cases, I think you are either suffering from a failed power supply or the supply is cycling because of a 'downstream' problem that could be in the high voltage circuit. In each case, the blink count probably would tell you approximately where the problem is located but only a Sony tech will have access to the codes. After all, we are only mortals.  "

Sony 36" Trinitron Problem

Good day.
There may have been some problem in the horiontal transistor. Also, Check for the zener diode that controls the supply going to the flyback. It might got busted due to the sudden supply surge.
