I had the same problem until my husband took the machine apart and we vacuumed the dust out and added RAM. Not sure which helped, the vacuuming or the RAM, but my computer has never been so quiet! I used to have to play music at night to drown out the incessant and un-patterned noise that came from my eMachine, but now it's as quiet as can be!

... this may be worth a try; it worked for my noisy emachine fan.
First open the box and vacuum out any dust on the fan. I also opened my power supply and did the same; there was quite a bit of dust, so you can imagine the heat never got the chance to be removed. Also, on my machine, underneath the CPU fan, there's a metal baffle; get the dust out of this as well ... same problem re. removing the heat. Last... and I'm not sure this matters or is true, but, for my fan, the power supply plug on the motherboard seemed to accept the plug oriented 180 degrees different from the way it was plugged in from the factory ... could this change the direction the fan blows? It certainly explains the bizarre build-up of dust in my CPU baffle. Once I did this, the fan goes up to 100 percent for about 3 seconds on boot, then it has never 'noised-up' like it used to! ... it's totally quiet now and the computer works great...
good luck

Depending on if this is the CPU fan or the case fan you can check out a replacement fan at http://www.quietpcusa.com/
These fans are fairly easy to replace with minimal work and will normally be much quieter then the ones that come with a store bought computer.

I have an acer aspire ax5900. The video card fan vibrates loudly for the first 10 minutes after start up. I am told I need a new video card. Is this correct and where is the best place to get one?

Your Acer Aspire, like any other desktop computer system, contains fans inside the case to help vent the heat generated by the internal components.
These fans generally operate quietly and reliably, working in the background to prevent your computer from overheating.
A fan that sounds excessively loud could indicate a problem such as overheating or loose internal components, or it could simply be a normally loud fan.
The key to differentiating between the two involves looking for additional clues from your computer.
Normal Operation
Due to computer configuration and build quality, the fans in some desktops sound louder than others.
Depending on what other brands of computers you've owned or have had experience with, the fan in the Acer may sound louder, when it's actually functioning perfectly.
The fan will run to keep the inside of the computer from overheating, so periodic runs are normal. If the fan runs for long periods or very often, you may have a deeper problem.
Fan Damage and Overheating
A fan can sound loud due to damage, such as broken blades or to a build-up of dirt that impedes normal operation.
This dirt, as well as normal wear and usage, can wear away the lubricant coating on the fan's internal shaft, causing the blades to make excessive noise as they turn. In many cases, a loud fan indicates that the computer is overheating, causing the fan to run more often than usual to try and cool the system.
Depending on the types of components and upgrades within your Acer computer, your current fan may be too small and weak to handle the heat output, and require upgrading to a larger, more powerful fan.
Troubleshooting
Take note of when the fan turns on and how long it runs to determine any distinct patterns, whether if it occurs only during certain processes or programs.
Your computer's CPU generates a large amount of heat while in operation, so programs that require large amounts of CPU usage may trigger the fan more often.
Watch for additional signs of overheating, such as sudden shutdowns or computer crashes. Check inside the case for signs of other components touching the fan and causing vibration noise.
Solution
Do not overtax the CPU by opening numerous processor-intensive programs at once.
Check that all screws, cards and wires are securely fastened and away from the fan.
Keep your computer clean inside and out, to prevent the build-up of dirt on the fan blades or air vents and minimize the threat of overheating.
Apply a drop of oil to your fan's shaft to give it proper lubrication and smooth, quiet rotation of the blades.

My emachine has always had issues being slow sometimes freezing up and not shutting down...n e way I had it less than two years n its been my first computer in years so I did virus scans and all...ok today...

Loud fan noise and heat are symptoms of a dusty machine. Use canned air or a blower and dust it out. You'll want to have the machine open for this.

Latitude e6500 runs hot how do i boost the fan

You may need to clean the fan and heatsink of dust. See the dust restricts the cool air from reaching the heatsink and this in turn causes your fan to spin faster. The computer's BIOS is programmed to increase CPU fan speed as CPU tempreature increases. If your fan is very loud, then it is running at the maximum speed possible. A clean heatsink will decrease the Processor's temperature.

Installing additional fans in your computer's chassis is an effective way of bringing the temperatures down. Install the biggest fans that your chassis supports. 120mm fans are better than 80mm fans as they can spin at slower speeds to provide the same airflow of a smaller fan. Therefore giving you a quiet computer.

Use a program called Speed Fan to ensure that your fans are indeed running at the desirable level of 100%

Take care!

My motor on my ...well what i think is my heater is extremely loud! how can i quiet it down..... it sounds like a really loud fan

Hello there:
Normally on these heater motors they can get really loud when the fan gets a lot of buildup on them which causes the fan to make a lot of noise and also it will make the bearings in the heater motor to wear out What i recommend you do is to first try to remove the heater blower cover it inside of the vehical and see if the fan has a lot of dirt anddebris around it if it does clean it out next if the fan is clean go to the heater motor and try to feel and listen to the motor and see if it is very hot if it is chances are that the bearings are getting worn which would lead to you replacing the heater motor ok
I hope that this has been very helpful for you
Best regards Michael

Fan is loud

well if its not attached to the motherboard in any place, for example the heat sync, or the cpu, then you can remove the fan, any other place, you shouldnt replace it because the mother board sets the fan at a certain rpm, and which would sound loud with any fan. I know this because i replaced the fan on my sony computer, and on a generic motherboard, and it was quiet, but when i put it on my sony computer, it was loud, so if you want to replace your fan, i suggest liquid cooling, it is completely quiet, and keeps your cpu much cooler than a fan. Best of luck.

Emachine T3508 Loud Loud Loud

The only sure way to quiet it down is to replace the hard drives with newer ones, that you have selected based on their noise rating, AND to replace all the fans in the machine with fans that you have selected based on their noise rating. I did this for my self-built machine last year and never regretted spending the money on new drives and new fans. It's SO much quieter! ;)
