I need metal replacement stove knobs.

Every time we use the broiler, the plastic stove knobs melt. Where can we get metal replacement knobs? I have a Jenn Air with the same issue. My knobs  are plastic and the foil wrap keeps peeling off. I want to buy metal ones and be done with it.

Nwe LG Gas Stove with the same problem. Obvious design error / lack of testing

Jenn-Air 2007 Gas Range knobs melt. We have a new Jenn-Air 2007 Gas Range. The knobs are made of plastic and melt from the heat. Obvious design/engineering error. I'm sure if we get metal knobs - it will get to hot to touch. Jenn-Aire needs to solve this problem or replace the entire range. This is unacceptable.

I have a ken more that this is happening. Cannot use my broiler and sears will do nothing to help me

I was able to find online some metal knobs that MIGHT work, but the prices ranged from $30 to 60 EACH, and I needed 5 - too costly for me!
The following 3 plastic knobs will work on your Jenn Air range, model JGR8875QDS. By "work" I mean they will fit your burner controls, operate the burners just like the factory knobs, and the markings on the knobs for "Off" "Lite" and "Hi" will be in the correct positions, similar to the factory knobs. (Exception: The last knob listed has markings somewhat different than the Jenn Air knobs.)

The following knobs do NOT look like your factory knobs - all three are made from black plastic rather than the (fake) silver metal look of the (plastic) OEM knobs. What I cannot tell you is if the following knobs will be more durable than the factory knobs - but then it's hard to imagine how they could be much worse.

-------- Burner control knobs known to work on the Jenn Air JGR8875QDS gas range --------

1. Whirlpool part number 74008850, made for some Amana gas ranges, will fit the Jenn Air. RepairClinic.com calls it part #1035119, and PartsSelect.com calls Item #PS2086316; it sells for $6-7 (USD). You can see a photo by entering the appropriate part number in the search box of either of the two websites mentioned above. The Amana knob is about a quarter-inch larger in diameter than the OEM knobs, but that does not cause any problems. Of the several knobs I tried this is the only one that tells me what it's made from - "PBT" - or polybutylene terephtalate, a thermoplastic which has a melting point of 430 degrees F and a maximum utilization temperature of 330 F.

2. Whirlpool part number 74009094, made for some Maytag gas ranges will also fit the Jenn Air. RepairClinic.com calls it #1035342, and PartsSelect.com calls it #PS2086544. It sells for about $9 on both sites. You can see it here:
www.repairclinic.com/Appliance-Parts?s=t-74009094-%3d%3d
Like the Amana knob, the Maytag knob is about a quarter-inch larger than the OEM Jenn Air knob.

3. A third knob worth considering is available from AmericanStoveParts.com for $7 each. The front of the knob looks much like their OEM Replica Burner Knob 1104-B (but don't order #1104-B - it won't fit). The knob that will fit the Jenn Air is AmericanStoveParts #1214-025-B. You will have to order it by phone or email because it is not shown on their website. (As of October 2009, none of the knobs shown on AmericanStoveParts.com will fit the Jenn Air.)

Notice the markings on the 1214-025-B are not quite like the Jenn Air markings, with the "HI" and the "LITE" positions being reversed. Also, the 1214-025-B knob I received did not have the white dot at the "OFF" position nor the white ring around the periphery as shown in the photo of the 1104B knob. The total diameter of the the 1214-025-B is 2" - the same as the factory Jenn Air knobs.

While I don't think the front of 1214-025-B looks quite as nice as the Amana or Maytag knobs, the back of the knob appears to be much more robust than on the others. The extra plastic MAY make this one more durable.
-------------
I have installed the Amana knobs (#1), and I will report back if it proves unsatisfactory.

I have a JennAire and the same thing happened to mine. I have an extended waranty, but they don't cover knobs. I had to order new "plastic" knobs 4 for $50. The one for the large burner doesn't fit and has cracked already.

I have been using five Whirlpool part number 74008850 (Amana knobs, #1, above) for over 6 years now, with no problems. - runswithsizr

My Jenn-Aire stove knobs melted and also crack at the base because they are plastic. I got new ones from Jenn-Aire after my 1 year warranty was up after arguing with them. The new ones are also cracking and melting (2 unrelated problems). I now cannot be sure the gas is off because they do not fit tight on the stem, so when you think it is turned off it really isn't. I just alerted Jenn-Aire about this serious safety/fire hazard and they are sending someone to my house to check out the stove. All I want is new knobs that aren't cheap plastic! They said they were unaware of the problem. I can't believe I am the only one this has happened to.

Mine have done the same thing, only I'm on my third set! I bought my range in 2004, so they have known of the problem for a while. Now my touch pad is going out, another $220. On a 7 year old appliance, you wouldn't think it would already be bombing out. I for one will never buy an overpriced Jenn Air product again.

  • Anonymous Mar 29, 2011

Call Jenn-Aire and tell them you thought the burner was Off and it wasn't because the Knob didn't work right! Tell them you almost got burned (or did). You will get their attention now! They will send a serviceman to your house but you'll get new knobs for free even if your warranty is up. Unfortunately, they'll be the same plastic junky ones but maybe if enough people complain they'll do something about it.

I can provide documentation that I notified Whirlpool about the knobs failing in September of 2010.

The plastic knobs melted on my new LG stove the first time I used the broiler. It is a Model LRG 30355ST. I called their service number (1-800-984-7469) and they were very sorry but I would just have to order new plastic knobs. They also advised me that I should have purchaced an extended warranty. Maybe I will just purchace another brand next time.

I had the same problem with these crappy Jenn Air knobs! I ordered replacements directly from Jenn Air and they were the same crappy ones and melted just the same. I happen to have extra Thermador replacement knobs for my 36" gas range (Model # KNOBRGBLK) and they actually fit! They are quite large but they fit the Jenn Air and are exceptional quality.

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2011

I just want to add that these Thermador knobs are indeed pricey, about $200 for a set. http://www.abesofmaine.com/item.do?item=...

I have a GE Adora and the knobs melted when I used the broiler. I looked in the owners manual, and it says to only use the broiler with the oven door closed. Apparently, newer ranges are designed to broil with the door closed.

Our cooktop knobs for our model JGC8536 Jenn-air cooktop are made of plastic and melt if a pot gets to close. Are there any metal knobs available?

What color is your cook-top? The stainless model may have actual steel knobs.. End your model number with "s" when looking for the parts..
If you have stainless and they are still plastic "stainless look" knobs then call the manufacturer as they would be the only ones to be able to determine if there is a metal knob available for your unit.
Good luck!

Burner knobs melt on GE Profile XL44 gas range.

I had the same problem and searched extensively for a solution. They even have a video from GE on the net telling you how to avoid melting them, which is basically don't open to broil and make sure the seal is good on the oven. Essentially, don't use their oven normally like the rest of the ovens in the world. Finally I went to a few show rooms to look for a knob to substitute for the garbage ones from GE. On one of the new models they have a solid cast stainless knob (with a plastic shaft, I think it is delrin) which looks identical but has a longer shaft. I obtained the PN which is WB03T10262 and ordered one. I trimmed the shaft length to match the length of the defective knob with a hack saw, and had to trim out some mold flashing in the cavity. After a couple of fittings I was finshed and it looks fine. I then ordered 3 more from the Appliance Zone for $15.98 each. GE's price for the same part was $25.25!!

Caloric gas stove prestige series

to jenna 12 Does your stove have a stop and start timer? When you set your clock you may have inadvertantly moved the stop or start time on that timer. Check them, if they have knobs for setting the stop and start time, make sure the pointer is pointing to the current time and that the knob is popped out and not stuck in. when you have it right both the stop and the start knob should be out, not pushed in. They will pop out when you turn them to the current time.

These timers allow you to start something cookin at a time delayed several hours. this means they will not allow the oven to come on until it hits that time that you may have set in error.

If your stove has a digital stop and start timer check each one so that both show the current time, then your oven should light.
