SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR500 loosing settings

Turning any receiver off will erase the settings - there is no backup battery (Onkyo uses Battery Free Memory Backup) and the length of time depends on the capacitor charge. Why not just leave the receiver plugged in? Stand-by mode uses a negligible amount of power - enough to keep the capacitors charged and the LED on the front panel on.

Here are your options:

1. An electrical problem, where your receiver has a grounding problem.
2. Your speaker wire connections are actually touching each other and that's why your receiver is not turning on.

“Hi, Onkyo TX SR 705 have a super cap for memory presets ou eeprom?? ”
Yes, it may have a 5.5V cap with 0.1F for memory to use .When the power is down and it loose the presets, whats the problem?? Tks
Don't worry, it will be charged up when the amp is On. The longer the time it is on, the longer the time it charged. For your case, replace the cap mentioned above can fix the problem. I will post the photo later.

After checking the onkyo TX-SR705 service manual, however, I did not find any capacitor of 5.5V 0.1F on the schematics. The EEPROM is powered by a polar capacitor. See photo.

Step of repairing
(1)Download the onkyo TX-SR 705 service manual.
(2)Find out the EEPROM located at Main Microprocessor Unit.
(3)Replace the capacitors of epprom
(4)If the problem doesn't solve, copy
all data form the old EEPROM by a SPI EPPOM reader.
(5)Buy a new SAME MODEL EEPROM and copy the old data to
the new one.
(6)remove the old defective one from the circuit board
(7)put the new one with data copied to the circuit board.7abf1fe5-29df-4e3d-98b4-8e2ba153ec59.jpg

My ONKYO has a good picture but there is know sound .

Must be DSP problem no matter what model it is. TX-SR/NR OR even RZ Series.

(1)If old model TX-SR/NR, you should replace the BGA DSP Q3001 "D830K013A/BZKB" TO "D830K013DZKB"IF DZKB get damaged, replace it with same DSP Chip-DZKB.
(2)For Tx-SR series, the DSP Q201 TMS320D788E001B SHOULD BE replaced with same model.
(3)For new model, RZ series the DSP Q3404 CS49844 should be replaced with same model.
(4)Crystal marked X201/3001/3404 should be replacd.

Check your speakers and make sure they are not the problem. A shorted speaker will cause this.

I have a bose speaker and the wires are thick.i couldn't seem to insert the wires into my TX SR 501 receiver.

What model Bose? If the speaker wires have molded ends they are possibly NOT electrically compatible with anything but the electronics they were sold with.
