  1. VIA a serial cable (looks like monitor cable is not). You have use something like telnet. Old school and very technical.
  2. Just connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and treat like a regular PC. Can't go wrong.

Look in Bios setup for OS Install mode setting. If it is enabled, it restricts the RAM to 256MB. Change the setting to off and it will sense the total RAM

SOURCE: dell server poweredge 1800 frequently shutdown

is there an error message that appears? can you check error logs? I need more information to be able to help you. I would first try to blow dust out of the fans, as it may be over heating, another possibility is that there is software on the machine that is causing it to shut down.

SOURCE: Poweredge 1800 server

Hey,

I looked over the spesifications for the poweredge 1800 servers, go ahead, it will work perfectly but there is one problem in the windows XP setup, you will need to insert / load SCSI or SATA drivers for the hard drive With a floppy disk, or if you don't have a floppy drive your going to need to create a custom windows xp setup cd and add the drivers into it so it can start the SCSI or SATA hard drive and finish the install. without the drivers it might not find the hard drive.

Aside from that I don't see any other problems. You should be able to get the drivers, and everything ese from dell site
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/

Actually I looked over the dell downloads, I see only windows 2000 on the list with windows server 2003, and 2008 and linux distributions.

This could be a 2nd problem, drivers might not be avaialble, or work with xp, but we might be able to get it to work.

So two problems, SCSI or SATA drivers in windows xp / windows 2000 setup

2nd problem is in windows xp drivers, you could try windows 2003's drivers and 2000's and see if they work, if not, then we would have to look for drivers ourselfs from the internet.

So xp might cause headache but we might get it working, windows 2000 seems to be supported perfectly.

Let me know how the project goes
Thanks,
Ekse

SOURCE: Does Dell PowerEdge 4600 Server support DVD ROM

I am working on one of these now and yes, it should boot from DVDROM. Be aware that it is a notebook style drive and there are no onboard IDE or SATA controllers, so once the drive dies you're in for a wallet hit. Same goes for the floppy drive which is integrated with the DVDROM. Even worse, the presence of the broken floppy usually means a USB floppy drive won't help when loading windows drivers at install time.

How can i istall windows server 2000 on Dell Poweredge T300

Windows 2000 is not supported on this machine. The closest you could get is using a hypervisor XenServer or VMWare ESXi and then installing Windows 2000 on a virtual machine.

Dell poweredge internet connection problem

A SCSI device would be a hard drive. Sound like you need to check the network cable, card, and configuration. Start by doing a simple ping.

ipconfig /all is the cmd to see the settings. Then ping the Gateway listed.

Hello here is the homepage:

Yes, that will be okay.

But a SSD harddrive is much faster, than the old mecanical one.
I know they are a little more expensive, but you will see a speed improvement, you have newer seen before.

Good luck

Problem to install poweredge r710 can nor detect sata hard disk

That is an impressive piece of kit. Is it under warranty ?
You should probably have it professionally serviced but you can always check whether it detects a known good drive. You can also test the suspect drive in another system.
Before you do anything ask yourself: What changed last (or recently)? There find you will that which disturbs the force.

Make sure that the connectors are all fully inserted. This means both the power and the data cables. Try different cables and a different power plug.

Can windows xp operating system be installed on poweredge 1650 server

Yes it can however XP isn't a network operating system. Your server would be deprived of many features and options that make a server a server. I've heard of people putting XP on their servers, and if all you are doing is using the Poweredge 1650 as a file server then fine. But you don't need a server for that, could have used a desktop with XP as a file server.

Problem with the Dell PowerEdge 2650 Server Can't detect Hard drive

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If this does not work then reboot and go to theBIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn'tdetect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Next - to determine if thehard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an external hard drive and you cannot open the various folders and files, this confirms the hard drive is faulty. The hard drive needs to bereplaces in the laptop and Windows installed and the laptop's device driversand your programs etc to get a functioning laptop again.

Dell PowerEdge R710 Installation error I have the same problem while installing Windows Server 2003 installation process reach to the step asking press F8, when pressing F8 it says no Hard Drive were...

ok you will need to get the windows 2003 drivers for your raid controller and put them on a floppy disk. when you first boot off the cd you will see a prompt to press f6 if you need to install any additional drivers. insert the floppy disk and select which driver you wish to load.
you should be able to see the hard drives now to partition/format.

Dell PowerEdege 1600SC not recognizing IO devices

Just go into the bios and insert the correct parameters. you shut it off before it could save the settings. Or hit fi on boot and it should take you into the bios and you cand sort it out in there. If you want an easy way, just do a system restore. Start,Programs, accesorys, system tools, system restore, just go back a day or two before you had that issue, and you should be good to go, good luck
