SOURCE: Linksys WRT54GX2 constantly disconnects

I just upgraded from firmware version 1.01.14 to 1.01.22 and I have the same problem, the router just keeps resetting itself. I think the solution is to go back to the old firmware, but I haven't been able to find a copy yet, Once I find firmware version 1.01.14 for the WRT54GX2 router. I will let you know if this is the solution... :)

SOURCE: Moved router to connect directly to the Comcast

Your ISP should have given you the following information...
Static IP, Internet IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, Static DNS 1-3.
With that information at hand, follow tis link to the router user manual and go to Page 11 of the manual to go through the step by step process of setting the router up for an internet connection.

Hi Craig,

First I suggest you remove the second IP address as this is your public address most likely that should not be posted in the open online for all to see. That being said, have you attempted to perform a full reset on the router? This is performed by holding the small pinhead button on the back of the router down for about 30 seconds while plugged in. Once done you can set the router back up like you did when you first purchased it.

You can find the manual for your router as well as possible firmware updates on the following page. (Have your model # handy!)

Is there any computer online using the router.
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
router set up page is the page where you can check all the router settings.

I have a Linksys modem with a netgear wireless router. The other night my internet just stopped working and now it is though the modem is not transmitting a signal. I have connected 2 different computers...

the ds light is for downstream which is your digital signal simply put...... if the light is not going solid to denote being :"online" there maybe signal related issues. rain will mess up the cable signals as the service is exposed to elements etc.....here is a trick i do with a modem that doesnt want to lock on to good signal.....reboot the damn thing...........give it a minute or two.. if the online light doesnt sync up solid....unscrew the cable connector on the back of the modem while it is powered up and wait 15 seconds////then screw it back on (needs to be hand tight, its like a water hose, if its loose you get signal loss) and give it 10 minutes......if it still doesnt lock up and go solid indicating online then call your cable company, you should not get charged for their service not working correctly..........it then would be something only a tech could fix. but if it does lock up and go solid ....hook up your router , power it up and give it a minute to sense the modem, restart the computer and you should be good to go...

What to do after resetting routing? i dont have any manuals!!, its a second hand netgear router . Yesterday i had wireless in my house, today i couldnt get connection, and a friend reset the router, now...

On the router you will find a reset button. Hold it down for 30 seconds and then release it. Unplug the power to the router and plug it back in. Wait for 30 seconds. Now try to reconfigure the router.
To set up the router , you don't need manual or CD. You can do it manually.

First make sure that your computer is able to go online when you connect it directly to the modem. If that is working, then you just need to open the router set up change the settings of the router .

How do i secure my belkin 54g router? we only want people who are in the house to access it

Go to the setup page for the router (IP 192.168.1.1) and set up the WPA-PSK [TKIP] security. It will allow fairly simple setup, and only provide the pass code to house members.

How do I put security on my Belkin 54g router

You set your security by enabling WEP.

When you get in the interface to configure WEP, set a pass phrase. Write down the 3 numeric keys it generates. Then connect to the wireless using your laptop, etc. When it asks for your passkey, do not enter the pass-phrase; enter one of the three keys that were generated by the router. That's the biggest mistake people make when trying to get wireless to work.

Make sure that your router is set for an "encryption system" that is similar to all your computers and mobile devices. Example, if your router is set to encrypt using WAP2, make sure all your devices connect and is capable to connect using WAP2. Or else, set it to WAP and set your devices to WAP also.

Router

check you cable connections, try to check if you can go online wired to the router if you are connecting wirelessly. You can also bypass the router and connect directly to the modem to make sure its working.
