I am a pro photographer and one of my cameras is an A100. I have noticed this same problem and sometimes when I am shooting fast the shutter delays. I found the problem in my card. My wife bought me a card based on price.  I sugest you use a card that reads faster than the camera can write. You can get the specs on the Sony Camera Site.

I do mostly wildlife photography now although I started in portraiture. I use, do not take this as an endorsement, the Sandisk Extreme III. There are others out there which are probably as good or better.
I carry 2pcs. 2G and 2pcs.4G on a full day field trip. I also carry a laptop or PC with a 120v adapter for the car.
I photograph  birds in flight and other animals in action. I also photograph them at rest. I photograph people and inanimate objects also My main use lens is a  Minolta 300mm with the Sony A100.

All of my shots require checking focus and composition at the instant the shutter is squeezed
That requires rapid succession but not auto succession. There is a split second pause to get the setting right. This style of photography requires many hours of practice and many, many, many messed up shots. I started by photographing cars on the expressway and anything that flew.

When I am starting for the day if the sun is good. I set my camera to aperture.  I focus on a subject similar to what I want to photograph and adjust my aperture to the largest number (smallest opening)I can get with a shutter speed of 250 . I want maximum depth of field. Then I set the auto focus to Continual and Spot. I track the subject and when I see the focus light and have the composition I want. I squeeze the shutter. I then check the exposure and adjust my settings from there.

Sony a100 broken screen

That's not too bad of a problem to live with if you don't end up fixing it. You probably know this already but what you see through the viewfinder is exactly what shows up on the lcd screen after you take a picture.
Have you:

*Tested the camera to see if any of the options and/or buttons work?
*Taken any pictures with it and uploaded them to your computer?

Do you have a user's manual that can help you navigate through the options? If not, feel free to send me a message.

As far as repairing the screen, familiarize yourself with other Sony screens if you can't find anything on the A100. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR8mqXd4Jrw

Good luck!

Sony a100 match ups

Yes, when Sony took over Konica Minolta they inherited the Maxxum lens mount (Minolta's AF lens mount system). the only Minolta lenses which don't work are the earlier manual focus type.

Sony have finally launched three new models which are the first to be clearly Sony designed, but they have still retained the Maxxum lens mounting.

Sony a100 keeps locking up and giving an error cod = 0x57

Try turning the camera off, take the battery out, reinsert it. If that doesn't work, the manual says to contact your local Sony dealer. You might also want to try taking the lens off, making sure nothing is hindering its communication to the camera body. Try using another lens if you have one.

My sony a100 is plugged in the computer to upload my pictures but

You will find a usb card reader will work much better. Do you have the sony software installed? The ARW files can not be read by any other software except something like Photoshop PS3 or later. I am a pro photographer and the A100 is my favorite camera.

Sony Digital SLR

You should have no problem, if they are maxuum af. The others should work too- I have an Alpha 100. The alpha 100 works great. I used to run my own photography business, and searched around for quite a while before I found the alpha. There is an adapter ring that i bought, that makes it possible for me to use my favorite old pentax screw mount 135mm f1.6, or any other screw mount, on my alpha 100.
The only drawback I found was you cannot use any other flash(at this time) than the onboard one-or the sony only flashes-which are a little pricey. Different size hot shoe is the reason. I haven't found an adapter yet-but I'm sure someone will make one. The alpha doen't have a real time display- or asa of 3200. I'm hopeing for a firmware update/upgrade to correct this. BUT the newer models with a higher than a100 number do have realtime lcd, and do go to asa3200. And they use either sony mem.stick or CF cards happy shooting
