Accidentally used kerosene in pressure washer. Have drained the kerosene out but it still won't start! What else do I need to do?

The gas tank was empty. I grabbed the wrong can to fill the tank, and later discovered it was kerosene when it wouldn't start. I removed the gas tank and drained the kerosene. Then I filled it up with gasoline, and it still won't turn over.

SOURCE: pressure washer stalls

Pressure washers work under very dirty conditions, no wonder they encounter engine problems. Here are a few pointers from a former pressure pump tech. The unloader is a source of engine overloading however this can easily be checked with a pressure guage attached to the gun with a tee fitting having the guage and the normal tip used for the unit. The pressure should never rise over rated pressure. The pressure should drop considrably when trigger is released. The life of the pump and engine can be increased by setting max pressure to 75% of rating. Most engine problems are from following conditions:
Leaking or misadjusted valves; clogged muffer /spark arrester; weak spark coil that is about to fail completely; kill switch/oil sensor wiring and or sensor mal function; gas cap not venting properly causing vacuum in tank and wet or dirty air filter.
All these problems easy to check, fastest repair is to disconnect oil sensor wire to check oil safety system. Then temp replace coil with known good coil. Loosen muffer bolts to check for clogged muffler. Temp run engine without gas cap to check for vacuum. Finally if everything fails, run the engine with carb cleaner spraying directly into the intake. If the engine continues to run with carb cleaner then the problem is fuel delivey and faulty carb. enjoy

SOURCE: getting a fuel dump

Sounds like you need to clean the carbs out, as they are probably gummed/varnished badly after sitting for 2 years.

SOURCE: Need to clean gas tank

Water promotes rust. Go to the paint store and get some varnish remover. Put a gallon in the tank and follow manufacturers directions.Don't get any remover on the outside of the tank!

Considering the age of the bike I would get a liquid tank liner.

Google kreem fuel tank liner “ or go to www.http://www.4secondsflat.com/Fuel_Tank_Sealer.html

SOURCE: karcher k2400hh pressure washer, water pressure cuts out.

Hello cikanek:

Try this:

From your posting, I assume you have removed the splash cap and the nylon bypass valve cover. Connect the water supply to the pump and connect the high pressure hose and wand to the pump outlet. Wad up a small towel and place it over the bypass valve opening to catch the valve insert when it pops out. With the engine throttle closed, pull the starter cord several times to see it the valve insert will pop out. If it doesn't come out after two or three pulls, set the throttle to low and start the engine. I have performed this procedure a number of times and the valve insert always pops out. There is no real danger of the valve parts getting seriously airborn since the actual pump output volume is very low (2.5 Gal/min).

Good luck,
Ed

Brigs n straton pressure washer won t stay running unless you put or keep starting fluid in in

Loosen the carb bowl nut until it begins leaking into the shallow clear glass bowl you placed beneath it. It may take a minute to have drained the water out of the bowl and another minute or so to get some more from the gas tank. With the glass bowl you will be able to see the water in the bottom and gas floating on top of it. When you see the gas on top then tighten the bowl nut and try to crank. (Choking helps draw out water still in carb) Return gas collected. to tank but do not let the water go back in.

Won't Stay On

If it's brand new, the first thing I'd check is the oil level in the Honda motor. Most pressure washers are tested then the oil is drained out for shipment. Honda motors have an oil sensor in them that will shut the motor off if the oil level is low. When the motor is off, all the oil is in the bottom of the crankcase and the sensor 'thinks' all's OK. When you start it up and the oil is getting splashed around it will get low enough for the sensor to shut the motor down. Also make sure the gas is turned on at the carburator.

The engine won't start

Ensure that the fuel line is not blocked. Disconnect the small rubber hose from the carburetor. Open the fuel on/off lever and see if fuel runs out of the hose, it should. If not, you probably have a blockage in the hoses, the on/off valve is blocked with debris or sludge, or the small bronze filet inside your fuel tank is blocked also. Take fuel tank off to check for blockage of the fitting. Simple process and you only need a 10mm socket.

Accidentally put mixed gas and tried to start. Blew white smoke after starting but wouldn't run. Drained tank and put premium back in now won't even start.

There will still be some fuel mix in your fuel lines and filter. Also it probably fouled your spark plug. Try changing the spark plug first, and probably buy an extra one or two to keep in case. Also either replace the fuel filter or clean it out good, oil will stick to the elements in the filter. It won't hurt anything to run a mix in a gasoline engine, just lubed things up a little extra. Let me know if you need anything else, Daniel.

The mower started. then just quit like ran out of gas. we blew thru the gas line going into the tank. then cleaned out filter. it won't start. at first it wouldn't even drain any gas out but we...

If the gas won't even drain from the tank, try removing the gas cap. It has vent holes and if this is plugged, the vacuum won't let the gas drain. If that is the case, clear the holes.

I accidentally put K-1 kerosene into my fuel tank. How do I drain the tank. I did start it up. It ran for a few seconds and stopped running.

You cannot drain gas tanks easily because they do not have a drain. It will unfortunatly either have to be removed or take the hose off the gas tank at the filler neck and syphon it out

It has not been used for a year. It's full of gas and oil and I can't get it to start. It doesn't even try to start?

Likely the gas it bad you can,t leave fuel in tank over winter with out gas stablizer You have to drian the tank and remove the float bowl from carb and lite that drain then put it back together and it will run with new gas may not run good for first 5 or 10 munites but will smooth out
