The second hand of my Tissot wristwatch model T870/970 stops for 4 seconds, then moves quickly to the next 4 second marker, stops for 4 seconds again, and again moves quickly to the next 4 second marker(as if to catch up) and so on.
The watch still keeps accurate time (The hour hand and the minute hand are still working).
When I'm not using this watch, I usually pull the crown to stop the watch(I read somewhere that this helps prolong battery life.Is this true?)
Hello!
Absolutely astonished by this "solution" from escapement.
This watch is working perfectly - it is simply giving its "end of battery life warning".
Yes, pulling out crown prolongs battery life, but this is only for allmost unnoticeable period of time.
With the seconds hand there are only one solution- you have to take your watch to the nearest watchmaker as you will not be able to deal with it without appropriate knowledge and skills.
There can be two reasons why the seconds hand is jumping:
1) Fault within integrated circuit ( watch 'brain' is not giving an impulse in a specific period of time),
2) Few teeth may be damaged on second wheel as well as there can be tiny dirt particles sticking onto it.
Both need attention of professional.
If that seconds hand do not annoy you too much, wait till the watch needs battery replacement and then replace battery and check the watch at once. It will be cheaper then to do both jobs separately.
Hello! This is absolutely right - the reason why the seconds hand was jumping: the watch has EOL feature and that means it is time to change battery, nothing else. Somehow I messed up with this answer, probably was answering another question. So, I do apologize for misleading information. The right answer is given by charlestonpa.

Usually answered in minutes!
Thank you for the advice. You're right, I'll wait until the battery needs replacing and have both jobs done together.

Coincidently I have exactly the same issue- the second hand moves in the same 4-second cycle! Thanks for the advice Escapement, I was concerned that this meant my battery was dead, but I'll wait until it is flat before fixing it.
