Kenmore 60 series grinds when spin starts

Just replaced a broken coupler. Worked well for 5 days then started making grinding noise when washer goes into spin and starts pumping out water. Rechecked the coupler and its all good. Washer is pretty old.....But would like to fix this one.

The grinding noise happens sometimes when the washer is used, not all the time, could it be something floating around in the gearcase?

Try taking the pump off the motor and see if the grinding noise stops could be something in your pump or a bad pump

My Kenmore 70 series washer sounds like it has something stuck in it and makes a grinding and buzzing noise the agitator will barely move but the washer will drain but not spin

That could be the motor coupler. It could also be the transmission. It is pretty easy to fix. I recently worked on my brother's washer:

If the coupling is OK then the problem is most likely to be further up the drive-line, which means the gearbox has probably failed. .........Nomess

Kenmore washer will not agitate or spin & makes grinding noise

CHECK THE MOTOR coupler located between the motor and then transmission this will be a good place to start if you lean back the washer and look from the bottom you will see a thing between the motor and the tranny that looks like a oreo cookie check and see if that is broken in any way

Kenmore Washing Machine 70 series

You most likely have a broken coupler between the motor and gearcase.
You can buy the part for about $10 or have someone come out and replace it for about $150-200.
If you will post the complete model number from the the washer so I can see which style cabinet you have, I will try to walk you through the repair. It isn't very complicated if you are handy with home repairs.
With the age of the machine it probably just needs a coupler, but it could also have a problem in the transmission or basket drive that has caused the failure.
