Hi, I have a problem with a Smeg A2-5 6 burner/dual oven. Everything works fine but the main oven does not work. The oven "on" light comes on and the fan works fine but no heat. The grill and all other functions work fine. I assume that the element has failed (albeit only after 16 months of very low use!). However I have looked at the element and can see no splits, bulges or burnouts so could it be something else? One thing I have noticed with this oven is the lack of heat control as 50 degrees appears to be exactly the same as 200! I put that down to it being a rubbish product as it's been like this for a long time. Additionally it looks like those clever(!?) people at Smeg have made this oven so that the element is undone from the back as I cannot see any screw heads (flat or cross head) from the front of the oven. Would you know if this is, in fact, the case with this model? Cheers, Phil

Problem is almost certainly the circular element. these sometimes fail with obvious damage but not always. check continuity across the element to be sure. you are right about element fixing. there is no reason why the design should'nt allow removal from the front as many do but i suppose the guys who make these things don't have to fix them.

Hi,
Always good to report back so this is to let you know it was, indeed, the element. Replaced it myself and all now works.
Thanks Tresilla!
