Just installed XP on separate hard drive(IDE) from my SATA Vista Drive.
Boots fine into Vista but will not boot from boot drive into XP. Also bought new LCD widescreen and had trouble booting from Vista until I installed driver and set resolution to 1440 X 900. Wonder if this is problem with XP. Would like to install driver on XP but can't get into the OS.
Just bought this computer 2 days ago. HP Pavilion a6600. I can see the hard drive in ''Computer'' and can get my files but would like to have the option of booting in XP.
If you would like to start up in the xp ,At computer start up hit F1 or F2 there are so many ways some times its hold the del key ,once your into the BIOS you can change the boot order of your drives to make the drive xp is on load first .You will have to do this everytime or buy a program that will do it for you .I would just leave the power unpluged on one of the drives until you need it that way it will be safe from a virus or if you have a hard drive crash you always have one good drive .Hops this helps.
Are there jumpers on the xp drive ?If so they must be set just right
and just to see if the xp drive is working unplug the vista drive and boot with just one drive.Because I have so many drives I had to do this so many times sometimes its not that it will not boot but you need to try the same thing more then once.leave the vista drive out and try to fix the problem .
Unplug the vista drive and just reinstall xp on the 2nd drive .hope this helps.

I tried your suggestion and changed the boot sequence in the BIOS but it still goes to the black screen when XP is first boot but and then I choose Safe Mode but it just reboots over and over. Any other suggestions? Could it be the boot manager. I had both Xp and Vista in when I first booted. Or could it be the 1440 X 900 monitor we just bought.
