SOURCE: Azimuth motor stalling missing the electronic home sensor

Check for binding in the gears; my 10" had aluminium chips in the fork base that jammed the gear. Cured by removing the RA manual adjust assembly - was useless anyway, as it could only be used with the RA unlocked. One setscrew in the fork base holds it in place, just loosen and pull up.

SOURCE: power problem on lx200gps telescope

If it's an electronic problem --- there are several folks on the Yahoo LX200 Group that can repair the board-- go there and ask for "RON"---

You should be using a stable 12 volt power source. The only other thing to check are

Get a temporary replacement for the hand controller and see if that works-- and-or get a low cost replacement hand controller cable from www.scopestuff.com and try the old controller with a new cable --- usually one of the capacitors is fried.

I have a broken autostar 2 telescope controller and need a replacement but can not find one in the UK

Many Meade dealers can order you a new hand controller, either Autostar II, or the 497 controller. Contact a large telescope dealer in the UK, or you can order direct from Meade here:

Meade 14'' LX 200 GPS telescope

If it will not boot-up it's probably the main board. However, I would try a brand new hand controller cable first before I panic.

A fellow by the name of Ron Sampson can repair the hand controller and or the main board circuits. He can be contacted by placing a message for him on the LX200 and the LX90 Yahoo Tech Group.

Hope that helps you. You can send him the hand controller and the main board and he will have a look at it.

Lx200gps, seven years old, the drive behaves chaotically.

This links may help you:

http://www.mapug-astronomy.net/ragreiner/decdrive.html

and this:

Sometimes a "runaway" is caused by a bad hand controller cable. You can buy a replacement from www.scopestuff.com

If a new cable does not fix it loose connections on the main board, and blown circuits can also cause a runaway. Get a new cable first and see if that fixes it before you open up the electronics, or try to send to Meade for repair.

My daughter is 12 years old and wants a telescope. What should I consider when purchasing one?

A small Dobsonian, like one of these.

6 inch should be not too big for her to carry outside.

Meade LX200GPS telescope

The front panel for the telescope has an internal fuse. Remove the screws and look at the circuit board for a fuse. Replace with the same type and rating. The telescope has a diode with the fuse that gives some protection against reverse polarity, and the telescope should function on this fix.

Can't upload data from computer

Check and define/ assign your com ports thru autostar and consistantly use the same port everytime you connect.
Also some usb to serial adapters are unsuitable ; dont ask me why but some work with autostar and some just dont, belkin adapters almost never work but the keyspan brand works reliably. I had the same problem and the kspan adapter plus comport set up sorted it.
Hope this helps
