My older kenmore refridgerator/freezer isnt cooling well

This fridge did this before, earlier this year....temperature raises in freezer and fridge, eventually worked fine again. is this a defrost mode? It lasted for about 2-3 days before working normally. This time its been about 24 hrs so far. It seemes to cycle, I can hear the fan running when I open the freezer. Coils are clean, just vaccuumed this summer.

Likely defrost mode, which on older models runs for a fixed amount of time whether needed or not.

The motor that times the cycle may be stuck or running slowly. It often is located at the bottom front of the frig behind a cover that runs between the front legs. Unscrew it and you will see a small motor running, that, through gears, turns a wheel 1 rotation every 24 hours.

The wheel can also be turned by a screwdriver - turn it until you hear a click that indicates defrost cycle is off. Should solve the problem short-term.

Long term, replace the faulty motor or clean it off to run smoothly. Alternately, unplug the motor so that defrost never kicks in automatically and defrost it manually.

SOURCE: Sears Kenmore ColdSpot Frostfree Frosting up/Not working

You have a defrost problem. You need to determine which one of the parts is faulty. The defrost timer on that model should be behind the kick plate in the center front underneath. If you turn the little knob by hand you will hear a load click when it gets to the defrost point and the unit should shut off. Check in the bottom of the freezer to listen for water sizzleing or for water running down. If it is the timer is not advancing and needs replaced. If not you will have to take the back off the inside of the freezer to see if it is the heater or the defrost thermostat. Unhook power before taking panel off or replacing any parts.

Sounds like you have a relay switch or igniter not working. If it is less than 6-8 years old, this probably,is the problem.

Small fridge no fan /freezer works but fridge doent cool

Unless the fan works there will not be any flow to the fridge section as the cooling comes from the freezer coils. check the fan and replace after checking the power to the fan.

Fridge not working

I've had this happen to my Kenmore 73503 several times. The 1st time took me a few hours to figure out what the problem was.

Basically the fridge is cooled from the freezer, so when you say your freezer is -2 degrees, it's a big tip off to the problem.

If you look very close in the freezer compartment at the back, you'll notice an opening with a little door at the top of the freezer compartment. This opening extends up the inside of the back of the fridge to the top of the fridge area via a square plastic tube.

Basically what happens in my fridge is the family loads the freezer to high especially at the top/back. This restricts or closes off the opening for the cold air to the fridge portion of the appliance ....resulting in a warm fridge, but cold freezer. Just remove the articles at the back of the freezer to correct problem. (It will take a few hours for the cold air to cool the fridge down)

Note: the temperature control unit in the fridge area controls the little door at the top of the freezer compartment, so if you haven't blocked off the opening, the next place to look would be either at the mechanical parts of the little door or the temperature control unit itself in the fridge

Fridge does not cool

Sounds like ice built up on the evaporator coils inside the freezer. thus hindering air flow to the refridgerator section. Is there ice build up in the freezer? This is assuming the temperature control didn't get changed inadverttily.

Hope this helps
