OfficeJet 9130 incorrectly reporting empty ink cartridge

I have a 9130 which is incorrectly reporting an error, saying the Magenta ink cartridge is empty. The date on that cartridge is 2009/07/10. I tried new, full, replacement cartridge with a date of 2008/11/12. It shows the same issue. It was working until today. What gives?

Look to see if there is dirt or other debris inside the Magenta Ink slot. There is probably something there disrupting the ink flow. Use a flash light to see if ink is clogged. Use Acohol with Q tip to clean the area and reinsert the ink cartridge. Make sure the printer is off and the slot has dried before turning the printer back on.
Hope this helps. Helen

Printer is lying to me. Says Magenta ink is missing...it's not. Magenta ink is there!

Mostly, printer cartridge error occurs when the printer head is unable to identify the cartridge properly. And the basic reason behind this is that the cartridge is improperly attached.

To reattach the cartridge check the following steps :

turn on the lid of the printer and then remove the cartridge from the printer head.

Check the cartridge to make sure that there are no scratches or other damaged parts that can contribute to a printer cartridge error report.

Take note that the cartridge should not be left open for more than 30 minutes; otherwise the ink will start to dry up and the cartridge will get clogged.

Hi i have a hp officejet 4355 all in one printer at my place. i m having problem fixing with the cartridge as it is showing error. pls guide

Problems with Hewlett Packard Officejet 4355 printing can often be due to issues with the cartridges. The printer has two cartridges, one black and white, and one color. Both can be physically inspected for problems. The printer also has a self-test report to determine if there is a non-obvious problem with the cartridge. The report can provide valuable information, including status.

  • 1

Take the black ink cartridge out of the slot on the right. Be careful not to touch the ink nozzles or the copper contacts.

  • 2

Look at the cartridge and make sure that the plastic shipping tape isn't still attached. There shouldn't be any tape covering the ink nozzles.

  • 3

Replace the black cartridge and then perform Steps 1 and 2 on the color cartridge. The color cartridge is the one on the left side.

  • 4

Print a self-test report. Load paper in the tray and press "Setup." Press "2" and then "4." The HP Officejet 4355 will print a report. Make sure the lines of color extend across the page. Missing, faded or streaky lines can indicate a cartridge failure. If the color bars don't show as black, cyan, magenta and yellow, you should clean the cartridges.

  • 5

Press "Setup" and then press "6" and then "1." The print cycle will commence. Allow it to complete and then print another test report. If the test still shows errors, replace the cartridges.

Ink cartridge installed but cartridge light continues to blink

Have you only replaced the magenta cartridge, or have you also tried the print head. A bad print head can cause the ink to read as empty or clogged.

maybe it have the ink level chip which can be resetted by removing the cartridge and oning and offing the printer for 5 times within 10 minutes coz it saves data of a cartridge upto 5 use before only.. and 6th time insert it.

    7310 won't print magenta

Either you are out of magenta ink or your cartridge is dirty. Just because you've run a cleaning job doesn't mean the printer will fix the problem. The best thing to do is take your cartridge out and use a paper towel to gently clean the head (where the ink comes out). Once you wipe away the gunk you should still get the three colors on each pass of the paper towel over the head. If you only get two colors (yellow and cyan) then your magenta is empty or dried out (happens with ink cartridges used past their expiration date). The only thing you can do then is get a new in cartridge.

Frequent problems with the magenta cartridge of my PIXMA MP510.

Dirty or faulty contacts in the cartridge chamber is the only logical explanation.
Remove the cart and with a cotton wool bud and a little alcohol or similar[NOT ACTETONE it melts plastic] give a gentle clean.
