Brand new Kenmore dryer won't run; water damage about 12 inches from bottom due to basement flooding. Light comes on, nothing else. Fuse tested fine, outlet fine, connection to heating elements fine, thermal fuse tested fine. Cleaned connectors with water and baking soda, still no luck. Didin't appear to be any significant water damage, but left clueless! Any ideas would be great.
Thanks! I apologize; I am posting this for my husband and you know how us wives are. . . ! He has not tested the motor yet as he ahd trouble getting to it; this is very possibly our problem. Homeowners denied, but we hope to repair anyhow. Thanks! I apologize; I am posting this for my husband and you know how us wives are. . . ! First, there is an excellent chance you have some kind of flood damage insurance. It may pay for part of the repair. You did not tell us what is not working but I'll guess it is the motor. On many models, there is a switch on the motor which will not allow the elements to heat unless the motor is powered and running.

Sorry to hear about the flooded basement ..here in Virginia i only had a couple trees down and power go off for 12 hrs but no flooded basement.
Their is no way to clean/clear the igniter persay..gotta check and see what shorted out due to the flood...this tip i wrote explains what to check on gas dryers when they dont heat. http://www.fixya.com/support/r10293028-gas_dryer_not_heating
Good luck i hope this help you to figure out why your dryer isnt heating, GENE
Sorry to say but you will need to replace the motor. After water gets in you can rarely save the motor no matter how long you let it dry. There is an internal over load inside the motor that is cutting out after 30 seconds and once it cools for 15 or 20 minutes then it resets .Hope you found this information helpful and thank you for using Fix ya.
the motor is cooked,i live in the boston area and we had some bad floods a few months ago,all i did for two weeks was change out dryer motors, you can try to spin the drum and hold in the door switch and have someone else hold in the start button to see if it will start but you have to change out the dryer or get a new one if it's in rough shape
First I would remove motor and put it in an oven for a few hrs at min temperature like 200 degrees then I would remove motor centricical switch and push in the actuator tab a few times, then put it back in. Use a cheater cord plugged into pins 4&5 and see if the motor runs, it should.
