Closed captions I have a 50" Dell Plasma screen. I don't have any issues with it except the closed caption stopped working. They were working fine, we activate them and deactivate them at will but now they don't work. You selected from the Menu but nothing happens. I tried all the possible combinations in the Closed Captions menu but nothing. Any ideas ?

No closed caption

When a television tells you that no captioning is available it is telling you that the broadcaster is not supplying closed captions. You are doing everything right, but the show you are watching is not captioned.

Have a toshiba 50" Plasma TV purchased 11/06.

I do not think there is an issue with the TV. I do not think that the station themselves broadcast the Closed Captioning.

I am seeing a black screen that covers up half the screen horizntally and radom characters are displayed in yellow and green text. How can I prevent/ stop this from happening

Hi and welcome to fixya.

From your description of the problem it sounds like you may have the "closed caption" turned on in text mode.
Look on your remote control for a button labeled CC or CAPTION and press it repeatedly until it says OFF.
Otherwise you may find it in your tv`s menu under "closed caption" .
You just need to turn it off.

Hope this help and happy holidays.

I have a black rectangle covering the center of the screen from top to bottom. How do I get rid of it? I tried the menu for Closed Captioning but it did not seem to work.

Try turning off the closed caption and text also check v chip, if you have a channel or channels blocked it could cause a black rectangle to pull up on the screen, if that doesn't work try resetting the unit to factory settings

Cant get caption to highlight on setup menu

the closed captioning will only work when the tuner is selected. if you are using a hdmi input from a cable box you need to use the cable box's c.c.

Get the closed caption off my tv

If captions are created by the TV the TV menu allows of/on of captions, however if you are hooked to a converter (sat or cable) these also sometimes create captions. Check the video set up in both places. Might solve your problem.

Closed captioning

The closed captioning decoder circuit in your TV set may not be working, or the closed captioning information from the station may not be present. Start investigating by finding out if there is actualy closed caption from the station that you are tuned in to. If so, then call the tech support for your set to know if there is something that you missed in the set-up for the closed captioning. It may be very simple. If all of this does not work, then the closed captioning decoder in the set may not be working properly and require service.
