Download The following iso listed below. It is the latest version of the Kaspersky rescue disk. You need to burn it to a CD with a program like Imgburn (Which is also FREE like the iso file). Then you need to boot from the CD and run the scanner. It should fix you right up. Kaspersky rescue cd download:http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id... Imgburn download:http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id...

You probably have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756
When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:
http://majorgeeks.com/Kaspersky_TDSSKiller_d6895.html

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:
http://majorgeeks.com/SUPERAntiSpyware_d5116.html

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:
http://majorgeeks.com/Avira_AntiVir_Personal_-_FREE_Antivirus_d955.html
Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira...

You should be in pretty good shape if you run and install all of these programs.

SOURCE: toshiba laptop problem

Ah , that simple means you have some corrupt files.....we can try a couple of things before getting too dirty:

  1. I would first suggest starting the computer up and tapping the "F8" key...it will take you to a black screen with white lettering. There will be an option near the bottom that reads "Boot Using Last Known Good Configuration" , select that option.....If you are able to get into Windows , we are done! If not proceed to step 2

  2. Ok , when you bought your computer you should have received a Windows XP disc..we are going to need that. Insert the disc into the cd drive and restart the computer. At one point it is going to say something along the lines of "Press Any key To Boot From CD" , when you see that press something on the keyboard.......It will now load up a blue screen.

  3. When that blue screen is done loading , you will see an option to enter the "Recovery Console", select that. This is going to bring you to a screen resembling DOS

  4. Now, type in the following commands with pressing Enter after each line.

    md tmp
    copy C:\windows\system32\config\system C:\windows\tmp\system.bak
    delete C:\windows\system32\config\system
    copy C:\windows\repair\system C:\windows\system32\config\system

  5. Now restart the computer and see if it boots into Windows , if it does not go back to the recovery console

  6. This time use these commands:

    md tmp
    copy C:\windows\system32\config\software C:\windows\tmp\software.bak
    delete C:\windows\system32\config\software
    copy C:\windows\repair\software C:\windows\system32\config\software

This should get you back on your feet, if not let us know and I can give you some further assistance!

SOURCE: windows could not start because the following file

If you did have the CD, instructions as per Microsoft can be found here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315338

Without the CD, you could always try to transfer the file from another working system. Can you start the computer in Safe Mode?

If not the easiest way to transfer the file, might be to take the hard drive out of the affected system, and temporarly install it in place of the CDROM on a working machine. Boot, then transfer the missing files.

After booting up samsung NC10 error message saying windows could not start because following file missing/corrupt \windows\system\vgaoem.fon

OK, try, Boot Up in SAFE MODE, press F8 At Boot up, quickly, select, Boot to safe Mode desktop, with networking... simply copy vgaoem.fon file from xp disc or from net, paste file into windows system folder, done.
OR You could simply perform a system restore back to another time BEFORE you had a problem, again start up in Safe mode, F8. but this time when the choice is given to choose safe mode desktop or system restore, choose system restore, when a calendar like thing is displayed choose a time PRIOR to this problem happening, follow instructions and before you know it your PC will be back.

Compaq Presario 1700 PC Notebook Problem gives me a screen windows will not strat because file is corrupted or missing file is \windows\system32\config\system

Is this XP?
Do you have the XP cd or the recovery cd's. This needs to be fixed by performing a Windows repair.
missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system"means that the OS,XP, is missing an essential file to run.
Or it could mean that your hard drive is failing. Is the hard drive noisey?
