I agree with Debbi. Tension adjustments must be made with each change in fabric type and thread type.

You don't say whether the thread breaks at the top thread or the bottom thread. Maybe more detail is advisable.

The needle thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle

SOURCE: i have a brother vx-1125 and the top stich is fine

If the bottom stitching is a mess it usually means that the TOP thread is not threaded correctly. What happens most of the time is that the thread is not snug in the tension discs. First re-thread your machine with the presser foot UP and when you get to the tension discs (sticking up at the back of the machine) hold your thread like you're flossing and go back and forth in the disc to make sure you have tension on it. You should hear a little click when it's in there. (Test it...floss it on and pull it off so you can hear the click.) If the thread isn't between these discs your bobbin thread will be loopy. Finish threading the machine and you should have no problem now. Also, make sure your upper tension is set at 4 and your stitch LENGTH (on the right front) should be 2.5 or 3 for a normal stitch. Hope this helps. Let me know! Thanks for using FixYa

SOURCE: Brother LS-2125 Upper Thread Snapping

I had the same problem and it was so frustrating! It was happening to me because I wasn't using the right size needle. Go up a couple of needle sizes and see if that helps.

SOURCE: Thread tension for Brother XL 2230.

If you have pattern dials set correctly then I might guess that one or more sets may have been missed when the thread was being set up in the machine. most of these models show either arrows or numbers for each or way the thread needs to be routed.

Tension setting for sewing denim on brother LS 2125

Refer to 'Manuals Online', Brother sewing machine user manual. There is an excellent guide to tension settings for all fabric types. Also remember to check upper and lower thread has been wound through correctly and are using the same thread top and bottom. Ensure you have the correct needle size for denim ie 100/16 and the correct thread size ie 40-50 cotton or heavy duty polyester.

My brother LS-2725 is sewing perfectly on surface but has large loops underneath.

Three main reasons for this issue:
  • The cotton is not threaded correctly> Cotton not in tensioner correctly, cotton threaded through needle backwards etc..
  • Bobbin not seated properly so not allowing cotton to loop over smoothly.
  • Bobbin carriage is damaged (usually by forced needle hitting it) Usually this is the tip of the pickup on the carriage is bent.
Hope this helps.

The top cotton keep on snapping when I am sewing also the top cotton make a loop I tried adjusting the top tension but problem is not solve.

http://www.wikihow.com/Adjust-the-Tension-on-a-Sewing-Machine
this explains tension and how to fix the problem if it is a tension problem.

Are you sewing through an abrasive fabric or anything sticky. This has been my latest reason for top thread breaking.

The cotton snaps after a little while.

Operator error. how do you know the "tension is correct?"

One other thing I didn't think of in your other post is a bad needle plate. If it is well and truly stabbed to death, it can create a knife edge which will cut your cotton.

Cotton breaks on Brother Embroidery Galaxie 2100 machine

Try turning down your top tension setting a bit. If its at 4 or 5, i would turn it down to about 3 ish. Cotton thread is more brittle than polyester and rayon thread.

Hope that helps :)
