Cotton keeps snapping
I agree with Debbi. Tension adjustments must be made with each change in fabric type and thread type.
You don't say whether the thread breaks at the top thread or the bottom thread. Maybe more detail is advisable.
The needle thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle

If the bottom stitching is a mess it usually means that the TOP thread is not threaded correctly. What happens most of the time is that the thread is not snug in the tension discs. First re-thread your machine with the presser foot UP and when you get to the tension discs (sticking up at the back of the machine) hold your thread like you're flossing and go back and forth in the disc to make sure you have tension on it. You should hear a little click when it's in there. (Test it...floss it on and pull it off so you can hear the click.) If the thread isn't between these discs your bobbin thread will be loopy. Finish threading the machine and you should have no problem now. Also, make sure your upper tension is set at 4 and your stitch LENGTH (on the right front) should be 2.5 or 3 for a normal stitch. Hope this helps. Let me know! Thanks for using FixYa

I had the same problem and it was so frustrating! It was happening to me because I wasn't using the right size needle. Go up a couple of needle sizes and see if that helps.

If you have pattern dials set correctly then I might guess that one or more sets may have been missed when the thread was being set up in the machine. most of these models show either arrows or numbers for each or way the thread needs to be routed.
