I have decoded to make a desk for our home office. Will any kind of wood do or should I be using a specific kind of wood for construction?

You can build a desk from almost any kind of wood; however there are some types of wood that are more preferable due to price, durability and appearance. I suggest making your desk out of either oak, maple or walnut; though products such as birch and cherry are good too.
