Sanyo dp42840 tries to turn on but fails

I have tried diagnosing the problem, and found a solution in a forum somewhere, but a second opinion always helps. the tv tries to power up, but fails after a second or 2. it allows you 3 tries, then goes to lockout. without a service manual, all i can tell for sure is that the power board is working properly, and the main board is indeed being supplied power. from what i understand, the top left corner of the screen was brighter than the rest of the screen. from what i read in a forum, they say the most likely cause is the backlight inverter, which makes sense to me, and could very well cause the safety circuit to kick in. just want to make double sure that is the case before the part comes in and i tear the tv apart. also, i am 98% sure of the location of the backlight inverter, but being 2% unsure with electronics is always bad...so before tearing the tv down, i figured i'd ask and make sure that the board top and center of the tv (above the main and power boards, and not accessible from the service panel) is the backlight inverter.

i will add that all capacitors "look" good...though it very well could be one. i am an electronic service tech, but do not have the necessary tools or documentation to accurately check them.

SOURCE: Sanyo DP50747 Replaced Power Supply still not working

this issue is related to either the y sustainer and z sustainer boards, checking the fuses on the y/b will giving you a good indication, if they are open(bad) then you'll have a easy fix, if not, i would try replacing the y board first.

My Sanyo TV (Modele # DP42840) has a problem?

It sounds like the power supply inside the TV is failing. You can try disconnecting everything that is plugged into the back of it EXCEPT the power cord and one source cord (ie: the cable or HDMI from your video source (like the cable box.))

If that doesn't help, then an electronics technician would have to troubleshoot the internal power supply.

What else should I check on my Sanyo DP42840?

This could be the tuner overheating and sending a signal from the tuner board CPU to the power board to instruct the tuner to turn off. Check that there is adequate ventilation in the TV. Try testing with a fan to see if that changes the behaviour of the loop that you get.

My sanyo dp42840 flat screen turns off by itself after 5 minutes...what do I do?

The first thing I would check would be the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board. If any of them are swollen or domed on top rather than flat, they will need to be replaced and that will fix your problem. I fix about 75% of them at the shop by replacing caps on power supply. A tech will probably charge around $100 if it is bad caps. It is a fairly easy job.

Sanyo DP52449, tv getting power but no display

When DP52449 (chassis 01 - that is important!) does not power on and the front LED flashes every 15-20 seconds you have a faulty main board, which you need to replace or get serviced.

We presently do not offer replacement boards, but we do offer repair services for them at
