I have tried diagnosing the problem, and found a solution in a forum somewhere, but a second opinion always helps. the tv tries to power up, but fails after a second or 2. it allows you 3 tries, then goes to lockout. without a service manual, all i can tell for sure is that the power board is working properly, and the main board is indeed being supplied power. from what i understand, the top left corner of the screen was brighter than the rest of the screen. from what i read in a forum, they say the most likely cause is the backlight inverter, which makes sense to me, and could very well cause the safety circuit to kick in. just want to make double sure that is the case before the part comes in and i tear the tv apart. also, i am 98% sure of the location of the backlight inverter, but being 2% unsure with electronics is always bad...so before tearing the tv down, i figured i'd ask and make sure that the board top and center of the tv (above the main and power boards, and not accessible from the service panel) is the backlight inverter.

this issue is related to either the y sustainer and z sustainer boards, checking the fuses on the y/b will giving you a good indication, if they are open(bad) then you'll have a easy fix, if not, i would try replacing the y board first.

i will add that all capacitors "look" good...though it very well could be one. i am an electronic service tech, but do not have the necessary tools or documentation to accurately check them.
