On the Nintendo DSi Menu, use the stylus to select the Settings ("wrench") icon. Now Adjust Your Audio And Mic Setting From There. You Can Mute, Unmute or adjust the sound volume you feel best.
There is probably water damage to the mic, for small ones like Nintendo's tend to break easily if gotten wet. I do not know much about Nintendo's repair policy, but if they won't fix it you might have to buy a new DSi
Nintendo DSi & Nintendo DSi XL - Settings - Mic Test You can use this feature to verify that the system's built-in microphone is working properly. How to test the microphone:
On the Nintendo DSi Menu, use the stylus to select the Settings ("wrench") icon.
Select the right arrow twice to go to page 3, then select "Mic Test."
Speak into the microphone (the microphone is located on the center of the hinge).
The volume bar will fill up with colored bands when it picks up sound.
If the volume meter does not fill up, check whether anything is connected to the headset port. If noting is connected and test still does not work, then there is likely a problem with the microphone and the Nintendo DSi will need to be repaired. Please click here for repair information.
If the volume meter responds, then the microphone is working properly.
ensure that your mic is working properly, try this by moving it close to the object producing the sound you want to record and see it it works and is probably a little bit low. if not, that means that your mic is bad and is due for replacement. the best thing to do is to take it to a repairer or send it back to the company if it is still under warranty
open up the ds and check the white cable on the mother board is attached properly if it is the mic needs to be replaced, its quite alot of work to replace it, so if you dont feel up to task there are places on the web that can help, just type ds lite repairs into google.
this happened to me too. the probable way of fixing the internal mic is to send it back to nintendo for repairs. dont worry, this is free. no shipping or any fees required. the only thing is that it will probably take about 10 days for them to fix it.
and this happened to me when i put a fake game in the dsi even though it registered as a new game and appeared. also, i wouldnt send it in because this process can reset all the data on your dsi. the best way of fixing it would be to look for a dsi repair store near you. that only takes one day.
Did the DSi get a bang? If it did this may have dislodeged the mic connector from the motherboard.
Alternatively it is a software problem. Try rebooting your system by taking the battery out for a few minutes. If this doesn't work it is a hardware problem and you will either have to sed it back to Nintendo (if it is warranty) or bring it to a local repair shop.
