I have a universal remote that is able to control some functions on my tv. I am trying to get the tv into auxiliary mode to connect it to my dvd player. How do I get it into auxiliary mode?

Usually the tv will switch automatically to the correct reception mode as soon as it detects an input into the scart socket.

I have and have had a number of tv sets and they all do this, though I do remember many years ago needing to select the AV channel. I believe these days the AV channel is for the other audio/video input sockets.

I suggest you connect your dvd player to the tv, switch on the tv and then press "play" on the dvd.
You should be able to enjoy viewing without further effort.

If you change channel on the tv to check what is on, the dvd reception will be lost. To save the trouble of disconnecting the scart lead and reconnecting I use a manual scart distribution box so simply pressing the button provides the required interruption so dvd viewing can be resumed.

Connecting Alba DVD to Toshiba TV

If the TV has the red, white and yellow sockets on it you can use an adapter. It's a scart plug on one end (for the DVD player) and 3 little round sockets on the other, usually red, white and yellow, sometimes red, black and yellow, like this:Amazon.
Then you need an audio/video lead with red, white and yellow plugs on both ends like this:Amazon

Or one of these:Amazon

You could also use a multi socket scart adapter to add more scarts to your TV:Amazon

How do I find out how to put the tv on the right input on an older model phillips tv

Look on the back of the tv, the sockets that various leads are plugged into will have names next to them e.g. SCART-1 or AV - IN or RF IN. Make a note of which socket is used by your DVD player, VHS etc. with the TV on, switch on the device you want to use, let's say you want to watch a DVD. Some DVD players send a signal to the TV and the TV will automatically switch to the correct channel. If not you will have to select the channel manually. On the remote for the TV, look for a button marked "AV", "AV IN", "INPUT" or "SOURCE" press this button and you will either see a list of possible inputs, in which case, choose the correct one for your DVD player - e.g. SCART-1. If you don't see a list, the screen should flicker, go black, blue or straight to the DVD player. Keep pressing the button until you get to the desired input channel. To go back to normal tv, press TV on the remote or you may need to press the input button a few more times - depending on your tv.

I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.

Hi i have an alba tv , im trying to connect a dvd player. I have connected the scart leads etc.I can not get onto the av channel so i can watch a dvd. Please help

Hi,

Firstly, please make sure you have connected the SCART cable correctly. This should be connected to a SCART OUT socket on the DVD player to one of the SCART IN or EXT sockets on the rear of the TV.

If you have correctly connected the SCART cable the TV should automatically switch to the AV channel when you switch the DVD player power on or insert a disc.

Switch your TV on, then switch the DVD player off and then on again. If the TV does not change to the AV channel you may have the SCART cable connected incorrectly.

Not all TVs automatically switch to the AV channel when the AV device is switched on. On some TVs the AV input is on channel 0 or 99. On other TVs the AV input is not assigned to a specific channel. On these TVs you need to look for a button marked "AV", "INPUT" or "SOURCE" - either on the TV remote or on the buttons on the front of the TV. The easiest way to do this is to insert a disk into the DVD player and start it playing. Then press the "AV" "INPUT" or "SOURCE" button (whichever one you have) repeatedly until you find the signal from the DVD player.

Please check your connections and try using the "AV" "INPUT" or "SOURCE" buttons. If you are still unable to watch your DVD player, please post back with the following information:

1. Model number of the Bush TV
2. Brand and model number of the DVD player
3. If you are using any remote other than the ones supplied with the TV or DVD player, the brand and model number of the remote.

I will then be able to tell you exactly how it should be connected and which buttons (if any) you need to press to access the AV channel.

Hope this helps. Happy New Year!

Regards,
BElectric

What is the TV channel set to to play a dvds151 dvd player?

almost all Dvd players are connected to a television by either a scart or a HDMI lead.

When you plug the scart into the back of your television (make sure its in properly) then turn the power on. on your dvd player.

This should automatically come on as scart leads send a voltage up the scart telling the tv to change to that source/av.

If it is connected via a HDMI cable then if you look at the back of your telly it will tell you what HDMI input number it is. then all you have to do is press the AV/ SOURCE button on your remote to select that number.

Hope this Helps

I have an Onn 15'' LCD TV Model No OLCD1504 and am trying to connect a DVD player that only has an AV out.I have tried connecting it with a Scart to Av lead in all combinations i.e. via freeview box,direct...

Some dvd players do not have the switching line fro your tv to automatically select scart input but you will be able to select via the tv remote if there are no buttons marked av it can be an oblong with an arrow pointing inwards or you may have to select via the source menu on the tv if you have your original handbook it will give a helpline number for Asda.SUPER8.

Watching digital tv using a Panasonic DMR-EZ47VEB

PLEASE NOTE THIS INFORMATION COVERS PROBLEMS FOR ALL DEVICES CONNECTED UP BY STUPID scart LEADS. I HOPE IT HELPS EVERYONE.

This is a common problem, the problem is caused by the fact your device is connected to the TV via a scart lead. The way it works is this: If you press the AV button on your TV remote your TV will turn over to the first scart channel. If you actively do something on the device connected via scart in this case the dvd player, (this includes things like playing a DVD or Video, or going into a menu), the device sends a signal down pin 8 of the scart lead and turns the TV over automatically to the AV channel, BUT as soon as you come out of the menu or stop the DVD/Video the signal stops and the TV will revert back to the channel it was on.
So you have 3 choices......maybe 4...
1. press the AV button on your TV remote directly.
2. Buy yourself and HDMI lead IF your TV supports it (note: you will have to select the HDMI channel on your TV remote because the auto thing is only on scart leads).
3. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU HAVE A SPARE LEAD look up a diagram of a scart lead on Google so you can find pin 8 and cut it out with a pair of wire cutters. YOU will have to still press the AV button on your TV remote to go to the channel though,
4. Connect your TV and DVD with an aerial lead and tune channel 6 on your TV into the DVD player. ps then disconnect the scart lead.
(Go for choice number one!)
