Cannot sign on after installing the Netgear WG311

After installing the wireless adapter it told me to sign off and restart. Once I have done that and restart it comes up with a sign on screen that asks for a user id and password. What is that? Now I can no longer even use my computer (I as using someone else's right now). I have never had this before.

The password has to be included when the device is requesting this. Should be printed on the dwvice somewhere.look around for it or try a hardline hookup then change the password.

SOURCE: Driver for NETGEAR PCI wireless adapter wg311

The answer to this issue is dependent on the linux distribution and version you are running.

There are several different versions of this card requiring different answers.

There are several different means in linux to address the issue. From earlier reading the NDISWrapper approach allows the used of a windows driver. For some versions of the card the madwfi project now on sourceforge, I believe may have options to support this card. -- see links below

Suggestions for each card version in this link
http://users.linpro.no/janl/hardware/wifi.html

the following show some discussions by others on this card
http://www.linuxcompatible.org/Netgear_WG311_c11290.html

Please confirm the Distribution and version of linux involved as well as the version of the wg311 adapter (1, 2, or 3) and I may be able to get more specific.

Hi!

I'm sorry to tell you, but Netgear does not have a Macintosh driver for WG11 adapter. It can only work with Windows OS.

Have a nice day!

SOURCE: Drivers issue

This model doesen't have Windows 7 support yet. Try with this driver version http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2566, it might work with Windows 7 as well. Otherwise you'll have to wait or change the operating system.

WG311 - Excellent Connection, No Internet

I do it for a living. In my experience with routers in general, they have a tendency to reset themselves with general poweroutages and power surges. I would suggest hard wiring to the router and going into the settings. It might surprise you to find the wep key changed itself during the week. Hope this helps.
