I've been having troubles with my computer for a while. At first it would turn on and restart indefinitely til I turned it back off. The screen would never respond either. Recently, I was messing with it again and I got the monitor to turn on but the tower is still resetting. I've been surfing around and tried a lot of things such as cleaning everything, and trying new cords. I have tested most of the parts on another shell I have and they all work including: power supply, graphics and video cards, hard drive. pretty much the only things I haven't tested are the motherboard and disc drives. Now for some reason matters have only gotten worse. The tower will get power and normally it would beep when it turned on but now, it just gets power and doesn't do anything. No beep. No monitor saying the computers on. I have no idea what to do anymore. Please help...
Does the CPU fan come on ?
Does the power lead that plugs into the cpu fan on the motherboard supply the required voltage ?
This one is a bit harder and once you check it you most likely need to apply thermal paste - but is there sufficient thermal paste between the CPU and the heat sink on the CPU ?
Does the power supply box in the tower case have its fan spinning when power on ?
Is the motherboard bent ?
I have seen this one - poor installation with different sized mounting screws. When motherboard gets hot the motherboard went faulty.
Some motherboards need a rubber insulator under the screw maybe there is a short under one of the mounting screws !

hey....i believe i did........lol..............unplug.....open up to access the motherboard...........remove the battery next to the front ports.
i am still not completly satisfied, but at least it is working like it was programed to do from the factoery. i installed speed fan to be able to monitor and control the temperatures while i was working on the this one. the smart fan does not react quick enough for my tastes and when the cpu is clocked at factory specs, it takes even longer to ramp up the fan. i am sure there are ways to modify the sotware to make it run cooler and react faster with fan speed, but i haven't the experience, but i amgoing to learn. you can get into the bios on hte restart by preesing the delete key when promted on start up. i cam also get into the bios command with alt f10, but do not know what command line to use to navigate there. any way, i have kind ofnoticed that on most problems like these people want to blam hardware istead of software. i know i thiught this motherboard or some component had failed when i first took the project on of fixing it.i have leaned not to be afraid of trying things, because most software hase default settings that can be returned to if i screw up, i can give you a little more about what seems to be happening wiyh this one before resetting.
the power manageent software seemed to be sending wrong voltages to different components which caused them to overheat. i also think the temp sensing software was haywire too because the speedfan temp readings have changed a lot sincei first started using it. bt in any case i have the satisfaction of being able to give my relative back a working computer. the speedfan was a life saver though, because i could control the temp and keep it fom crashing while i was working on it. i would recomend it to any one, but it is freeware that is free because it is still being developed and requires a lot of modifying to make it accurate.............ok............my finger is tired now......lol........jope this helps........also i posted on other similar topics relating to this model of computer. i actually like it because it isso small and operates pretty good compared to my hp pavillion that is 5 years old...lol.

Well that is a new one. I always thought that the hardware of the computer drew the power from the supply and for the hardware to run properly the drivers do that trick on request. But the power rating of the supply will accomodate the drive motors are the ones that use the most wattage. Less than 300 watt supplies are the ones that will show you a flip flop...
Well since you surf the NET the bidg spider web... and you may have an anti virus program I guess go to trendmicro and use housecall it is a free scan just takes time this site is safe.
It really sounds to me that you have alot of programs running in the background that is using up resources and if you are using explorer 8 *ate Yes it is a realestate hog it eat memory that is your resources CTRL-ALT-DEL task manager tap into performance tab PF usage should be lower than then 0.5 of your total memory 3/4 usage is a red area! This usage is a gauge for your resources.
You may have to increase your memory or reduse whart is running or sitting in standby...
The memory today is less expensive than in the early years.
I expect you have went hog wild trying new things on the net installing games and never uninstalling them and they may be sitting in standby mode in your memory which is eating your resources.
If you card ran good for a week and suddenly you are experiencing poor running performance and the images are great as they where after the video install. Yea they know what they are doing and you are just learning this! Otherwise you would of did your own work...

Nothing showing up on the screen, definitely not a monitor issue the way you describe it. And you did all physical repair checks and such? Then the most likely problem I see is with the operating system. Windows Vista is so glitchy that any number of things could go wrong with it. I wouldn't put it past that OS. If you could get past the monitor issue perhaps you can uninstall that OS and upgrade to windows seven. Otherwise I'd take it in for a more professional diagnosis =/
