Monitor works on G4 but not Macpro

I have 2 identical KDS 19in monitors. They have both worked for years on a Mac G4 system. Recently upgraded to MacPro desktop. One monitor works fine. The other wont boot & crashes the system. I've checked all ports ,extensions, and cables, which are working fine. The monitor still works with the old G4 when I reconnect it.

SOURCE: KDS radius 17"LCD RAD-7C shuts off during boot and won't come back on (mostly)

I am having the same problem and this seems to be very similar to the problem these users are having but that is a different screen. So I was hoping someone would have more info on this specific monitor. I am seeing no budging capacitors on my boards.

SOURCE: The monitor goes blank after just a few seconds or sometimes works for hours.

My monitor worked one day - gone the next. Nothing on the screen except a bright green glow. No tech support for this problem. They want $70. just to look at it.

SOURCE: KDS K717s 17" LCD Monitor

This is a common problem across many monitors, unfortunately. The problem stems from one of two things, typically.

Itis either the Power Inverter board (Inverter Mirage Electronics AD-1700Rev:F 200-000-170DTL1 VERSION:A) or a weak or dying backlight.

Ifyour monitor comes on for a few seconds then you can test the backlight byusing the controls to get into the backlight brightnes settings on theOSD and turning it WAY down.

If that doesn't work or if it won't come on at all then it islikely bad capacitors on the Power board mentioned above. If you feeladventurous and know how to solder then you might be able to fix thisyourself. You need to be careful however because you are dealing withhigh voltage in there and capacitors CAN hold a charge long after youhave unplugged the unit. You can read more about this power board aswell as how to replace the bad caps HERE.

Ifthat's not for you then I would recommend taking it to a local TV shopfor them to fix. The parts shouldn't be more than $20, but labor can beexpensive.

SOURCE: kds model 780 monitor no signal, power button does not work

My monitor does the same thing at times and sometimes shows "No Signal" and at other times the screen will maintain the images but the backgound color switches to mustard yellow. In each of these cases I have been able to solve the problem by unplugging the power cord from the electical outlet for about three seconds and plugging it back in. I have a KDS model 780 LCD.
GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: My monitor stays on for 6 seconds

Hello,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htmYou can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and -connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

I have a brand new Macpro that my teens got for xmas, used it 1 day and the screen stays black, I can hear the fan but the screen shows nothing.

When you press the power button do you hear a chime. If you do your monitor cable is probably loose. If you do not hear a chime there is a physical problem with the computer and you should make and appointment with the apple store to have it checked out.

My 15" Powerbook G4 screen is half blank - it sometimes shows lines or has some blank spots but it's always gone away. This time it seems stuck. What to do?

Hi There,

If you can get your laptop connected to an external monitor it will do the main troubleshooting for you. With it connected and set to display on the monitor, the 2 options below are pretty solid;

1. If the monitor shows your nomal desktop display without any distortion or lines, etc, then you can be fairly certain your LCD screen panel on the laptop is just wearing out.

2. If the monitor shows exactly what the laptop does, i.e., same exact problems, then it means that the Video chip on the logic board is about to fail and you'll have todecide whether to repair or upgrade to a newer machine.

I wish you the best.

Monitor won't "sync"

Analysis procedure on this one is straightforward, though equipment intensive.
1) Put a different display on the Mac and see if it works better.
2) Put a different computer on the display and see if it works better.
Until you do this, we don't even know what component is at fault. Once we do, you can proceed from there.

No monitor works on my G4 Power Mac

Hi,
If no monitor works on your Mac, but the machine is booting, the only assumption I can draw from this is a faulty display card.
Try another display card and see if this helps.

Grey screen

First, you need to eliminate the video card or the Kogi as the problem, which is quite easy to do by testing a known working monitor on the Matrox card.
