I had this on mine, and after searching on the internet concluded it was a problem with the lens assembly. Taking the view that I could not lose, I disassembled the camera, which is probably not advisable. The problem I think was fixed, by gently tapping the front of the camera on the silver lens surround with the handle of the knife I used to undo the screws. I did this on repeated switch on, and after a fair number of times, the lens moved and the camera came back to life.... Re assembly was a bit tedious, but I was left with no screws or extra parts!!. One working camera and one happy son who has been using it for skate board video ing.

Hi Cdtd....you are absolutely right !!!! Thank you very much !!! I had the same problem after I dropped the Optio MX4, and although I had opened it before could not fix it until i follow your suggestion and tapped, I believe stronger than you with a hard rubber caulking spreader, not to accidentally damage the glass, and now the camera get image through the lens again. It is worth the effort to take it apart, so try tis first. I like the web ready video in this camera.Today is January 14, 2011.

My sony cyber shot dsc-w220 has a black lcd screen. All other functions work, flash, menu displays, just the screen is black and when I take a pic it is black.....any suggestions???

Sound like a malfunctioning CCD-image sensor. Rare, but possible problem with your LCD screenviewer (I dont believed, if you can see Menu icons)... in both cases (LCD or CCD) this isn't a job that you could solve yourself; this wrong include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card.

I suggest check THIS LINK for additional details in this previous solutions for an Defective CCD (Charge Coupled Device) and next contact your Sony service.
I strongly suggest (taking into consideration the age of your camera) to evaluate the cost of repair versus the cost of a new camera with similar features, before making a final desicion.

Hope this helps and just keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa.

No image on LCD screen

It sounds like you're receiving partial information on the LCD screen and that the image sensor isn't sending information to the screen.

If you know the sensor is working by recording some video on an SD card and being able to view the recorded video on your PC, then there is a disconnect between the LCD and the image sensor.

If you are not recording video to your SD card and only get black images or no files, the image sensor is damaged.

If you are recording video, but no image appears on your LCD for internal viewing/playback, you can try a firmware update if one is available from www.insigniaproducts.com, but this is a discontinued item so there's not much available for support.

Hope this helps!

Pentax Optio MX4 won't read my new SDHC 4gb

Does the camera work with any other card? Was the card formatted in the camera? Some cards from some manufacturers just don't work in some cameras.

Pentax Optio s50 The LCD display has lost some pixels and now has a circle of black spots on the screen. Is there anyway to fix this or is it time for a new camera? I can't just look through the view...

If pictures taken in Auto mode look the same on a computer (or when printed) as on the LCD display a Sensor fault is indicated. If the Computer image is OK the LCD display on the camera is faulty.
Assuming your camera is out of guarantee you could request a quote for repair but beware the "Minimum Charge" some suppliers impose just to tell you how much it will cost.

White horizontal lines on display.

Cameras dont like drop tests! Check if you are getting the same results on the images- printed or viewed on the computer screen. This will prove whether is is a LCD error or CCD error or Processor error But the remedy will be that same New Camera

Black screen

I think I'm having the same problem, but I'm a little confused by your message, so I'm not sure. "In the beginning...reddish, end...stripes....images...OK." Seems contradictory. I'm having the display problem, too, but my image files are like what I see on the display, so I think I have the CCD issue that Sony describes at http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=118&mdl=DSCF717. They give instructions for obtaining a free (postage-paid!) fix. But if your images are okay, it sounds like you have a display-only problem that might not qualify. Anyway, check it out, and good luck.

Sony F55 Recorded Display

The filename (e.g. DSC0012.jpg) shows the image number, the filespec shows the date and time recorded. Most software will give you document info about resolution of the image. I wouldn't worry about what the battery status was when the shot was taken or how many other images were on the Mstick. I guess I'm not sure what you need.

Pentax Optio 555 LCD screen blank problem

No I don't believe it is your shutter, more than likely it is a LCD Screen problem. I would suggest you take your camera back to the shop where you purchased the camera and have it serviced under warranty. I had a customer with an Optio 550 come in and it looked like every shot was taken through 'venetian blinds' and the problem was with the LCD Screen and the camera was sent back to Pentax and repaired under warranty.
