How do I make my PSP able to connect to my router?

My Motorola SURFBoard router has WPA2-PSK security settings, which isn't supported by my PSP 3000 system. The PSP has the most up-to-date software, as does the router. I've tried changing the security settings on my router, but it doesn't work. I can't find where to add MAC addresses for my router. What can I do so my PSP can connect to my internet?

  • Anonymous Aug 11, 2012

Nothing seems to be working. I tried entering everything manually into the psp system because I know the SSID, etc. and that didn't work. Tried it again with different security settings on the router and that didn't work. I tried the pairing and that didn't work either.

Try different security types. WEP, WPA2-PSK . Setup the device, you didn't post the Make, Model of device, to WPA2-PSK if you need to update the firmware go to the manufacturer's website and install the latest firmware version. If you need to update the firmware in the Samsung take a look here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/BD-E5400/ZA

NETWORK SSID

Some later model wireless routers have the Password(ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router andthis information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adaptersin your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit yourrequirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorizedaccess. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cablefrom your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computerand enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login andpassword and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID andEncryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 togenerate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born inJanuary 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. Toconnect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop, configure thewireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings ieSSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptops cancommunicate with your wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r10267861-network_security_key

I have a Motorola SURFboard Gateway SBG6580 and am trying to configure my laptop, which runs Windows XP, and 2Wire WIFI card. Although the 2Wire Wifi card is able to see the signal from the SBG6580, I...

last man running XP the virus magnet , oops???? no future there.
no PC told no wifi card model told. and what 2wire means I guess 2 antenna wires sure.
SBG6580 this is cable mode + router both in one, AIO +wifi 'N" grade step 1; the PC works great i wired mode ethernet to rear of surfboard
no, then the modem is failing call the ISP.
yes, wired works
so now comes pesky love/hate wifi next.
1billion posts on the web, pain. ... I can fix them all but is hard work.

rule one in this regard, NO PC told but
WPA (1) must be enaBled the router side. of surfboard.
I have all mine set to wpa2/3. (wep and wpa1 blocked)
as did yours new, wpa1 is off.
but you do as you want if old things in the home that only do wpa1.
then what you set.
the SSID and PW are both , case sensitive.
worse yet some characters are not allowed either end.
page 24 in your manual states, RTM amazing what is there, behold.

WPA2-PSK is automatically set as the default

page 47 shows, and do pick it there inside the router
this
Select one of the following wireless network security options for your wireless network from the
Wireless Security drop-down list:
WPA: Wi-Fi Protected Access
WPA-PSK: Wi-Fi Protected Access with Pre-Shared Key, standard encryption
WPA2: Wi-Fi Protected Access version 2 with Pre-Shared Key, standard encryption with the AES
encryption type
WPA2-PSK: Wi-Fi Protected Access version 2 with Pre-Shared Key (recommended)
8.Choose the wireless network encryption type in the Encryption field:
AES- Advanced Encryption Standard: Provides the strongest encryption (recommended)
AES+TKIP- Advanced Encryption Standard and Temporal Key Integrity Protocol: Allows both
AES and TKIP-capable clients to connect to your wireless network.
just so you know, newer routers are like this,.today...
and are way more secure too and less bugs. ! old bad, new good.

ad_hoc or guess mode are gone forever
WPS+ pin gone ,too, (now, new Netgear is preset ssd +pass ,NIB
label on router shows this.fact. and WPS button GONE.

WEP gone for ever, it is insecure max.
wpa (fear growing) but may have it or just alone.aka wpa1.
or show up as wpa1/2
then see WPA2/3, like mine, and wpa1 is single choice.
what your PC and TV;s need and demand I can not guess.

is using a PC learn what WPA it uses.(age of PC is the key)
learn what other things in home use or need (IOT)
yes some old things are wpa 1 only. no higher.
then make your choices for sure all same and wpa2 if can.
and then set the router to that.
and use a PW that is only alpha- numeric and does not use dictionary words. or all upper or lower, mixed can be hard to learn
here is me using lastpass, autogen
example: only, use a one case SSID.

Have a Linksys Wireless router Model WRT160N Security is set at WPA2 Personal i can not get my new iPAD to connect when i diasable Security it connects I am looking for a suggestion I also need...

@joea1956

Try the following:

1. If you want WPA2 encryption on your router, (which also have higher security and compatibility issues with wireless cards), you could try WPA2-TKIP (which is standard encryption and made compatible for all wireless cards) or WPA2-AES (for specific wireless cards that are unable to connect to TKIP encryption)

2. If Step 1 won't work, try to lower your security encryption to WPA-PSK (either TKIP or AES) and try again. If this works, your IPAD2's wireless card doesn't support WPA2 encryption yet.

If all of the above fails, I do not recommend WEP since it's easily cracked (for advanced users) but you could try it as a last resort.

Good luck.

How can I get wireless Internet with my motorola surfboard SB5101 to my laptop? It's asking me for a pin and I can't find it!

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

How to make a secure connection. So far i have an open connection. My router is Belkin_G_Plus Mimo

Open the router page 192.168.1.1 >> type this in the internet explorer address bar.
1. the Home Page is displayed. Click Wireless from the left menu
8. Changing the Wireless Security Settings
Your Router is equipped with the latest security standard called Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2). It also supports the legacy security standard called Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP). By default, wireless security is disabled. To enable security, you will need to determine which standard you want to use.
To access the security settings, click Security.
The Router features WPA2, which is the second generation of the WPA-based 802.11i standard. It offers a higher level of wireless security by combining advanced network authentication and stronger Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption methods.
2. You can configure wireless security/encrytion settings here. Select WPA-PSK (no server) from Security Mode drop-down menu. The new page will display on next screen
3.Setting WPA Security
Note: To use WPA security, your wireless network cards must be equipped with software that supports WPA. At the time this User Manual was published, a security patch from Microsoft is available for free download. This patch works only with Windows XP.
Your Router supports WPA-PSK (no server). WPA-PSK uses what is known as a pre-shared key as the security key. A pre-shared key is basically a password that is between eight and 39 characters long. It can be a combination of letters, numbers, or characters. Each client uses the same key to access the network. Typically this is the mode that will be used in a home environment.
Setting WPA-PSK
1. From the Security Mode drop-down menu, select WPA-PSK (no server).
2. For Encryption Technique, select TKIP or AES. This setting will have to be identical on the clients that you set up.
3. Enter your pre-shared key. This can be from eight to 39 characters and can be letters, numbers, or symbols. This same key must be used on all of the clients that you set up.
