It would depend on the vehicle. For this model you need a power supply and a ground. You will also need an external antenna.

Sounds like you need a tech to "ALIGN" your radio! I have one of the same radios I bought at a yard sale last summer. I just haven't taken it to a tech yet. I have to many radios! lol

This is normal for the LXLE's. The new circuitry power the new face plate uses a small high voltage transformer and if power is applied to the receptacle on the radio it is drawing some current. When the power supply is turned off or on with the on/off switch on the LXLE turned off there is still a spike of current going through the radio. Not to worry, it will hurt nothing. If this is truly a problem, someone could probably design a little diode circuit to stop this issue. I would if I could but am not that smart.

Try a new Mic. Make sure its a working mic. If you have a bad mic, the receive will not work.

Often an error code "Y" would indicate test/diagnostic result of the antenna. A communication equipment thus equipped would test the SWR and display this error code if:

• no antenna detected; or
• SWR of antenna is way too high.

Although am not familiar with the version of a Cobra 29LTD with this type of display. Could you pls post back the exact model of the radio, normally there would be two (2) more letters after the LTD something like Cobra 29LTD BT.
