Could be poor connection from battery to battery cable terminal. take off both pos. & neg. battery terminals, clean & reinstall, making sure there is a tight connection. if the cables are loose (even just one) or if the battery cable seems degraded with corrosion, they should be replaced. could also do a load-test on the battery... it should stay strong under load, and shouldn't drop to below 11 volts under load. if it does you have a bad battery, even though it may seem good otherwise.
Testimonial: "Swapped out the battery and started right up. Thanks!"
Burned out diodes in the Alternator can cause the Battery to fail to get fully charged. Low voltage causes Starter failer.
SOURCE: Starter fails to start.
I'm having the same problem. The dealership keeps telling me it's the starter. I've replaced starter and still have the same problem. I have had all the wiring and new key swith put in and still have the same problem. I guess were in the same boat!!!

I had a similar problem w/ my 94 Pathfinder. The problem was a cheap security system that was offered in that year model and the wiring between the ignition and the starter was run through this system. The dealership was able to by pass the security system and this fixed the problem. For years other mechanics told me it was the starter but I knew it was something else.

check the starter, starter motor and the starter are one unit. just under nearth the battery. make sure the red battery wire is tight. and the black ground is tight to the chassis.
if you don't hear any clicking sound, the starter is bad, need replacement.
if you hear clicking sound then look for the starter module. mounted on the side of the distributor.
these are two most problem area.
if it still don't start, go to zcar.com or 300xcar.com
they should able to give you most place to look.

good luck

Did you try looking through the fuse panels or relays?

sounds like the starter. have replace several in the past.

It sounds like battery failure. A low voltage in the winter can cause your Battery to freeze damaging one or more cells. The side bulge out too. A bad cell will cause the Battery to not get fully charged or even hold a full charge. Also, low water levels in the Battery cell will short out that cell. You can visually check each cell by removing the caps--use distilled water to fill the Battery because calcium in the water will netralize the Battery acid. Also do a acid hydrometer check of each cell to see it charge lever ie. 1 to 5 balls will float.
I swapped the battery and all is good. Now once in a while, there is a grinding/screeching noise when trying to stat it in the morning. It does it twice then starts fine on the third try with no noise. But it runs.
it sounds like the Selenoid part of the Starter motor has a corroded contact switch. you could try taking it apart and cleaning it with sandpaper, or buy a rebuilt Starter (recommended).
I already replaced the starter solenoid before I replaced the battery. Didn't do anything.
it's a low voltage problem. so if it's not the battery or starter, then move up the circuit to the starter Relay and then the Key Switch. badly corroded contacts increase resistance causing voltage drop.
