Problem with refrigerator maintaining temperature. Not turning on If I unplug the refrigerator and plug it back in, it will cool to proper temperature. It reaches the set temps and then it never comes back on so that it slowly heats up again. Unplug and replug and it starts up and cools. Seems like a sensor problem. Any ideas?

SOURCE: ONCE THE COMPRESSOR TURNS OFF DOESN'T COME UP BACK ON

The refrigerator is starting defrost mode once four hours of compressor run time has elapsed. Once the computer enters defrost mode it will remain in defrost mode until the desired evaporator temperature is reached (to melt any ice present). However, in my case, the defrost heater was not coming on due to a melted thermal fuse. (one defrost heater and one thermal fuse in each compartment). I found the thermal fuses to be open so I bypassed them. They are made to "open" at 77 degrees farhenheit. Simply storing the appliance in a garage could melt them. Hope this helps!!

SOURCE: my Samsung RB1855SW refridgerator not cooling

You may just be catching the unit during normal defrost cycles. Next time, allow the unit some time to complete it's needed task. If you allow it 30-minutes, it should restart on it's own. The cycles are necessary to keep the unit working properly. The cycles will be more frequent as the weather warms. If you allow the unit 30-minutes and it does not restart on it's own, then there could be a problem. You might consult the owners manual for more details.

Good day!!!!

When working properly, the thermostat turns the compressor on and off. Once the thermostat turns the compressor on, it will run until the temperature inside the refrigerator is lower than the setting of the thermostat. Make sure that the refrigerator has enough air clearance on all sides. Refrigerators with a condenser coil grid on the back of them need room to radiate the heat away from the coils.
Verify that the door light switch is working properly. Push the switch with your finger to verify the light is turning off. If the light stays on, it will actually warn the interior of the refrigerator. Fix or replace the switch if it is faulty.
Modern refrigerators that have a lot of storage and large freezer compartments run for longer periods of time. They also start and stop very frequently to maintain an even temperature. This is especially true if you have just put a lot of warm food in the refrigerator, or if it is very hot and humid. It can take several hours to get back to the cool temperature you have it set for after putting a large amount of food in it.
If the compressor is not shutting off when the temperature inside the refrigerator is cold enough, you may have a bad thermostat. You may also have the temperature set too high in the refrigerator. Try adjusting the thermostat to a lower temperature. If this turns the compressor off, you had it set too high. With the help of a refrigerator thermometer, you can find a more ideal setting that will keep your food cold, but not so cold that the compressor is always running. If raising the temperature setting doesn't help, it may be a problem with the thermostat and you will need to replace it.
If your thermostat is working properly, there's a chance that you have low levels of refrigerant in the sealed system. If this is where the symptoms lead you, you need to contact a professional appliance repair person. Only an EPA certified technician can legally work on a sealed system. If you attempt to do work on this system, you will void the warranty.
If this is a new refrigerator, it will run for a long time, almost constantly, before it gets cooled enough to stabilize the interior temperature. Allow up to 24 hours for it to stabilize. The refrigerator should be at least one half to two thirds full. This will help to maintain a stable temperature inside the unit. The cold items inside will help to keep an even temperature inside after the door has been opened and closed. Some people prefer to keep a lot of stuff in the refrigerator as ballast, even jugs of water. This helps to maintain temperatures inside so that when the door gets opened and closed often, it doesn't need to run as much to maintain the temperature inside.

Zanussi ZX97/5SI fridge/freezer. Fridge part no longer keeps cool, freezer fine. Somehow not keeping temperature.

If the fridge part of your Zanussi ZX97/5SI fridge/freezer is no longer keeping cool, while the freezer part is still working fine, there could be a few possible causes:
  1. Thermostat malfunction: The thermostat controls the temperature inside the fridge. If it is malfunctioning, it may not be able to maintain the correct temperature, causing the fridge to get warm.
  2. Air circulation problem: If the air is not circulating properly inside the fridge, it may not be able to maintain the correct temperature. This could be caused by a dirty or blocked air vent, a malfunctioning fan motor, or a problem with the door seal.
  3. Evaporator coils are iced up: The evaporator coils are responsible for removing heat from the fridge. If they become iced up, they will not be able to function properly, causing the fridge to get warm.
  4. Compressor issue: The compressor is responsible for pumping refrigerant through the cooling system. If the compressor is not working properly, it may not be able to pump refrigerant through the system, causing the fridge to get warm.
  5. A malfunctioning control board: The control board is responsible for managing the functions of the refrigerator, if it's malfunctioning it may cause the fridge not to maintain the correct temperature.

Problems in adjusting the temperature on a GE Refrigerator

Unplug/turn off breaker for a minimum of 3 minutes and then plug/turn it back on. This performs a hard reset to the control board so that it works properly. Hope this solves it.

Side by side will not maintain temperature

Your condenser fan is not running. It's underneath. You access it from the back behind the cardboard cover. The fan should run when the compressor runs. Replace the fan and you can stop using the house fan.

Refrigerator will not maintain proper temperature

Check in the back of the fridge section; there is normally a control that is provided for 'balancing' the cold air between the two sections. That coolled air is distributed by a concealed fan that may not be running; you should be able to ear or feel the air movement when the unit is in a cooling cycle.

My Refrigerator and Freezer is warm

Chances are if they are getting cool -

1) the evaporator fan in the freezer is not running
2) Defrost heater has failed
3) Defrost sensor has failed
4) Defrost timer/refrigerator control has failed.

Check for ice build-up on the back wall of the freezer. If there is ice, unplug or turn the unit off for 6-8 hours with the doors open (put any food in a cooler with ice to maintain). Note water may come out of the refrigerator.
Plug the unit back in or turn it back on, close the doors, and check temperature after a couple of hours of operation. If all OK, you will need to have the above tested, or, if you know how to use a multimeter and can read a schematic/wiring diagram, I can instruct you on how to check the above.
