Connecting recorder I have Windows vista and my computer wont install the usb drive, its says file missing, i followed the directions in the book and it still wouldnt work

To resolve this problem, try the following solutions.
Solution 1: Check your Xbox Live connection

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.
Solution 2: Clear the system cache
Removing the temporary files on your console might solve the problem. Follow the instructions at How to clear your Xbox 360 system cache. Then, try downloading the update again.
If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.
Solution 3: Copy the update to a USB flash drive, CD or DVD
Copy the console update from your computer to a USB flash drive, CD or DVD, and then install the update on your console. Here's how:
Copy to a USB flash drive
Note The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system.

1. Plug your USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.
2. Download the update file.
3. Click Save to save the console update .zip file to your computer.
4. Unzip the file:

• If you are using Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
• If you are using an earlier version of Windows, you need to use a special software program to unzip the file (for example, WinZip).

1. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory of your USB flash drive.
2. Unplug the USB flash drive from your computer.
3. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console.
4. Restart the console.
5. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the new console software.

Burn to CD or DVD
You can also download the update to your computer, burn the update to a CD or DVD, and then install the update on your console. Here's how:

1. On your computer, download the update file.

• If you are using Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.

1. Insert a blank, writeable CD or DVD into your computer.
2. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory on your CD or DVD, and choose to write (burn) the files to the disc.
3. Once the files have been burned to disc, remove that disc from your computer and insert it into the disc drive on your Xbox 360 console.
4. Restart the console.
5. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the new console software.

Is it possible to find an old computer running an old version of Windows, and then to connect the tape-drive to that computer, and then to copy the files onto a folder on that computer?

Then, if that computer has a network-card, you can "share" that folder, so that all computers on your network can then access that "shared" folder, i.e., to copy the files, and then to burn them to a CD-recordable.

You have not specified your operating system. However I will explain how to do it with windows 7. First you have to create a bootable flash drive. Do it as follows
Format USB flash drive to NTFS format(For Win XP only. Vista users can directly format the USB drive to NTFS format) In your Windows, go to Control panel -> system -> hardware -> Device manager.
Under the disk drives section, right click on the USB storage drive and select Properties.
Go to the Policies tab, select optimize for performance. Click OK.
Open your Windows Explorer, you should see the USB storage drive in the inventory. Right click and select Format. Select NTFS from the drop down bar. Click Start.
For Windows XP,
Download MBRWizard. Extract the zipped files to your desktop.
Open a command prompt (Start -> Program -> Accessories -> Command Prompt).

cd Desktop/MBRWiz2.0/
MBRWiz /list
Record the USB flash drive disk number
Make the USB drive active.

mbrwiz /disk=X /active=1
For Windows Vista,
On the Start menu, navigate to the command prompt entry. Right-click and select Run as administrator.
Type

diskpart
list disk
Record the disk number of your USB flash drive.
Select the USB disk.

select disk X (X is the drive number of the USB flash drive)
List the current partition. Record the partition number.

list partition
Select the current partition and make it active.

select partition Y (Y is the partition number of the USB flash drive)
active
Creating bootable USB flash driveDownload Windows 7 iso (32-bit) file to your desktop (The download link is no longer valid).
Download and install WinRAR.
Right-click on the Windows 7 iso file and select Extract files. Extract the files to a folder (you can name the folder any name you want, but for illustration purpose, I name it win-7) in your desktop.
In your command prompt, cd to the windows 7 folder.

cd Desktop/win-7 (Change the destination to the folder that you have extracted)
cd boot
bootsect /nt60 X: (X is the drive latter of your USB drive )
Now, copy all the files from the Windows 7 folder to the USB flash drive.
Reboot the computer. Remember to change the first boot device to your USB drive in the BIOS.
You should be able to install Windows 7 from your USB flash drive now.

When you install Windows 7 (or Vista) you may get the following message:
Error 0x80070017 Windows cannot copy files required for installation. These files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installtion are available, and restart the installation Error code: 0x80070017



This can be displayed with error code 0x80070017 or error code 0x80070570 in Windows 7 or Vista

The cause is very simple and you can probably guess from the error code in the screenshot above. The cause is that Windows cannot verify the files.
Simple Solution

• Burn or get a new copy of the disk (Burn at a slow Speed 2x and use a quality media like (Verbatim)
• Or if you have a current Windows installation you can install from the hard drive or from a USB drive

1. Backup all your files. Windows XP has a "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" under System Tools under Accessories under All Program. Use it to create one (large) file -- copy that file to a DVD-recordable disk or to a USB memory-stick or to an external disk-drive.
2. Verify that you can read that file -- writing a "bad" copy would be horrific.
3. Access the LENOVO web-site -- looking for device-drivers for your model of Lenovo,
that will not be contained on the Vista CD. Download them, and save them to a CD-recordable disk (not a USB disk -- you may need these device-drivers, in order to enable the USB ports after installing Vista).
4. Insert the Vista CD. It should "autorun" something, asking your permission to start the installation of Vista.
5. Follow the on-screen prompts.
6. After the install completes, use "Windows Update" several times, to get all the security-fixes that have been issued since the release of your Vista CD.

You need a repair/reset CD, and you may need an USB external drive to read it if yours doesn't work or isn't available. The CD may be obtained by Samsung tech support. For Windows XP and Vista you just select OS installation and hit 'R' for repair.

Alternatively you can note down the name of the missing file, locate and save it on a USB key from a computer with the same OS version, and boot the PC using Universal Boot CD (UBCD). Then just copy the file where it should be. Unless you're short a specific driver or VXD, most other files are drop-in compatible.

You need to make a bootable usb install for windows (these directions are for vista but should be the same for xp)

This tutorial will help you in creating a bootable USB drive of Windows Vista which you can use to install Vista in any system. It might become very useful when you don't have access to DVD drive.
1. First format your USB drive in NTFS file system. You can do it by attaching your USB drive to your system and then format it from My Computer window.
2. Now open Command Prompt window from Start menu. Right-click on Command Prompt entry in start menu and select "Run as administrator" option.
3. Now type diskpart in Command Prompt window and press Enter. It'll launch DiskPart program:

list volume
It'll show a list of all drives in your system. Look for your USB drive entry. As in the below screenshot, the USB drive is "G" which you can determine from its "Type" entry.
Now you have to select the USB drive volume by providing select volume no. command. Since in our case volume no. of USB drive is "Volume 4", the command would be:
select volume 4
Now we have to make this drive active. So provide active command:
active
Now exit from DiskPart using exit command.

5. Now we need to create Boot sector on USB drive. We'll use "bootsect.exe" utility for this task. You can find this utility in Windows Vista setup disk. It'll be present in "Boot" directory.
Now provide following command in Command Prompt:
bootsect /nt60 G:
Here G is drive letter of USB drive. Replace it with the correct drive letter if your system has some other letter for USB drive.

6. At last, copy all files/folders from Vista Setup DVD to your USB drive and you have done.
Now you can boot using your USB drive and can install Windows Vista in any system.

If there are more than recording device, then you have to select default recording device as you MIC connected to coresponding sound card..

For eg, if your MIC is connected to front panel and if the REAR IN is selected as a default device you wont able to record sound in Windows Vista..

To select default recording device

1. Select your sound properties through the control panel or the sound icon in your system tray.
2. Click on the properties tab,Check the recording box.
3. Make sure you have selected the default device upon mutiple device

When connected to a 1394a port on a FireWire dual speed controller (1394a/b) the WD My Book hard drive would not be detected.

Cause:
This is an enumeration issue related to pin assignments of the FireWire controller and the FireWire ports on the hard drive.

Resolution:
Connect the hard drive to a FireWire controller that is either 1394a (FireWire 400) or 1394b (FireWire 800).

This is most likely caused by a corrupted INFCACHE.1 file. This file stores the location of drivers and their INF files. This file is hidden, has restricted access, and can be found in “c:\windows\inf”.

Delete the INFCACHE.1 file and it will force Windows to rebuild the INFCACHE.1 file the next time Windows searches for drivers. To delete this file, you have to set the security permissions of it to allow Full Control for the User Group Administrators or full control for your user account. Please follow the directions below:

Open a Windows Explorer window by right clicking on Start and then clicking on Explore.

In the address bar, type C:\windows\inf and press Enter.

Find and then right click on the file named INFCACHE.1.

Select Properties.

Click on the Security tab.

Click on Edit to edit the permissions of the file.

Click on Add to add User Groups.

Type Administrators in the User Groups field and click on OK.

Set Administrators to Full Control and click on OK.

Move or delete the file INFCACHE.1.

Reinstall a device to force Windows to rebuild the INFCACHE.1 file (DO NOT reinstall the same external hard drive that you were having issues detecting before. Please connect another USB device other than the one that Vista had an issue detecting).
This detection issue can happen several times in a row, but repeat the steps 1-11 and try again until this works.
